As of late, folks have gotten rather heated about Proposition 8, and yesterday, the Keith Olbermann video was being posted in blogs everywhere.  His speech was impassioned, and he made good points in encouraging people to wake up and recognize the limitations of conventional dogma.  This is in line with the same outrage expressed by many about the ( Read more... )

Impossible? no, just difficult; however, it is less difficult than trying to force through a religious change from the position of government. I am only proceeding from the proper view point of separation of Church and State, a point I have heard argued by ordained ministers. The Church has an obligation to lecture/teach its members on their moral leanings and formulate a family unit by choice in that structure. The State has a clean cut obligation and limitation to providing legal parameters to permit financial stability -- for taxation, property, health assurance, etc. These two issues have been mired together in a moral and legal stew that has caused our country indigestion ( ... )

I agree that naming the legal status and the religious institution the same thing is the real problem. I don't understand why religious officials are allowed to perform a government action. Make everyone go to the justice of the peace to get "married" or whatever we prefer to call it. That's all the government should care about.

The US is so backwards sometimes.
