In Character Information

character name: Jin Uzuki
Fandom: Xenosaga
Timeline: Xenosaga Episode III: Also Sprach Zarathustra; post-death
character's age: 35

powers, skills, pets and equipment: Jin's most obvious skill is his swordsmanship. No matter what, he will always be carrying his sword around. It's his weapon of choice, and he's not shy about it. His skill with it is exceptional, as stated by his arch-rival before he died. Though Jin's strength may not be the best, his intelligence and his speed keep him up with even some of the tougher opponents. He can hold his own in battle vvery well, without the aid of guns or fancy ether.

His smarts is what keeps him out of most of the trouble someone like him might find themselves in. He analyzes situations and proceeds accordingly, in the most cautious manner he can to avoid unnecessary conflict. He doesn't go into battle unprepared.

Jin's also very skilled in the medical field. He even had his own practice at one point in time, before he gave it up for an antique bookstore. He claimed his patients were annoying. This didn't stop him from helping a dying man on the side of the road later on, where he performs a surgery by transplanting organs from a realian to a human. Though technology is far greater from where he is from and nanomachines are used to help with healing, basic knowledge of everything doctors do is needed, so even in Anatole, he would be quite capable of handling medical emergencies.

When it comes to machines, Jin's not bad off, either. He's definitely not a pro, but he can work giant mechs, and he's quite capable of handling all the basic technology in his own time and world. It's not his best trait.

Finally, Jin is a scholar. He soaks up information and loves investigating the old and the mysterious.

canon history: Jin is a born and raised Miltian. His father was a scientist for the Federation and little is known about his mother. At thirteen years of age, he was given a little sister, Shion. It was sometime after that, that Aoi, his mother, fell into a coma.

Jin lived that period of his life as a Federation soldier. While it was said his father betrayed the Federation for U-TIC, an organization at odds with the Federation, this was not true. In fact, Jin served as a bridge between his father to the Federation, supplying them with U-TIC secrets.

Fifteen years before the storyline, the Miltian Conflict tore apart Miltia. Jin was there, planning, waiting for the right moment. It isn't certain what that was, but it probably has to do with his and his father mutually leaking information to each other and saving both Aoi and Shion during the battle without anyone noticing a valuable test subject missing. Unfortunately, before Jin could reach his mother and father in Labryinthos, he was attacked by an old nemesis, Margulis. He and Margulis studied under Jin's grandfather as swordsmen, though Margulis held little respect for the man.

Unfortunately, the delayed Jin was unable to reach Labryinthos in time to protect his mother and father. Shion, who was huddled in the corner, was the only one he could reach. He carried her to safety.

Their relationship became estranged after that. Jin could try all he wanted to get closer to his sister, but as she blamed him for the deaths of their parents, she refused to have any sort of relationship.

Eventually, he gave up the peaceful life on Second Miltia to complete a mission for Helmer, a former Lieutenant General of the Federation and more than likely a commander of respect for Jin. They returned to Milita, called Old Miltia at this point, following information found inside MOMO, a realian who was friends with Shion, called the Y-Data. Their mission wasn't a success, losing the Original Zohar, an item of extraordinary power, to Abel's Ark.

After that, Jin went with the Elsa and crew to investigate Ormus, another organization bent on returning to Lost Jerusalem, their 'homeland', and they hardly cared what they had to do to get there.

About six months after that event, Gnosis began to attack in patterns, as if being led by something. Jin's group discovered a man named Grimiore, who died in the UMN, was behind these attacks. Little else was mentioned about this, but it served as busy work.

Approximately six months after, a mysterious landmass appeared. Jin accompanied the crew of the Elsa in its investigation, only to lose the Elsa in it. Their attempts to break through the hypersphere that surrounded it after a battle occured were soon successful with the help of KOS-MOS.

However, things turned bleak after touching down. KOS-MOS was attacked and destroyed and a resonance between KOS-MOS and Shion's necklace 'transported them fifteen years into the past'.

During this, Jin helped a wounded Virgil and aided in discovering the truth inside Labryinthos during that time. When Shion was captured, he along with the others, went to her aid. It was discovered that Jin knew all along about the tests going on inside Labryinthos, and also that Shion was among them. He never provided any reasons. The truth was that Jin knew Shion suffered from the same illness as her mother and the tests on their mother were in order to help save Shion. The tests were never completed and no 'cure' was found.

Jin staved off the Red Testament who was trying to lure Shion to him with the promise of a cure while KOS-MOS took Shion and ran.

After that, the battles waged until planet Michtam. Here, Jin had a hand in killing Pellegri, a woman he used to have a relationship with in their younger years and Margulis.

In the end, Jin led the others to safety while chaos and Nephilim attempted to use the Gnosis as energy to warp Zarathustra and that area of space to Lost Jerusalem and help slow the destruction of the universe. He returned to make sure they completed that task and after a valiant battle, died.

personality: Jin comes off as a pretty easy-going guy. He's easy to talk to and is likely to have a calm expression on his face. When it comes to people, he's very good at reading them. In fact, he is one of the few people who did not think that the android KOS-MOS was as emotionless as she seemed. He even became genuinely angry when she was wounded.

He tends to have a wise, mentor-like air around him, though he isn't one for apprentices. Jin's casual attitude towards real life, especially his way of living, is a constant source of annoyance for his sister, such as taking things too easily. Jin would prefer things to be resolved calmly and quietly, without battle or all the fuss that comes with an argument. At times, he'll even remain quiet himself and allow the situation to calm itself. That being said, Jin can also be a passionate man. When he aims to do something, he sees it through to the very end and doesn't forget to make sure he's left his mark. He will fight with all he has to protect what's important to him, without a second thought to his own well-being, going to his own demise, even though he was afraid, but knowing that to protect the universe and the people he cared about in it, it was what he had to do. It is discovered at that end that what he was seraching for all along was peace.

Jin cares deeply for the well-being of others. While he complained that his 'patients were annoying' when he ran his medical practice, he tends to an injured man on the side of the road, knowing what he will one day become. He also cares very deeply for his sister, despite the way she treats him. When he shows these things, however, he comes off a little pushy, or a little too calm or may seem to 'brush-off' things. Teasing isn't out of the question, either. It's simply Jin's way of showing he cares.

At one point, his former lover calls him manipulative. To a certain extent, this is very true. Jin prefers things to go his way and will try and steer them in that direction, but he's pretty subtle about how he does this. In a conversation, or in battle, he hates to lose. Jin uses this, though not completely consciously, to push people away. He doesn't see keeping a distance as being lonely, but rather in the best interest of those around him. The only one he really cares to get close to is his sister, though he undoubtedly makes real friends with all of the people he travels with, probably the only people who can deal with him.

There are times, especially in emotional situations, Jin will take the role of a commander. While he does feel for people and their problems, he would rather keep his distance about them. His 'commander' side might not seem all that different, but he undoubtedly is. He becomes a bit colder, seemingly unfeeling, and doesn't take anything from anyone. He barely hesitates when it comes to raising his blade against even his own sister, if it means the protection of the universe itself.

Jin has a fondness for the past. For instance, instead of using a gun, or the lasers that are the common choice in the modern day, he prefers the use of a sword and he will even dress in older, japanese clothing toward the more form fitting and practical clothing in the time period he comes from. He's a scholar, and loves investigating the old and the mysterious and learning all he can about it. All of it is really more of a hobby than anything, but it is what makes him Jin.

While he might not necessarily be the most open guy, he does come off rather friendly to strangers. He's not against having conversations. He is one of the few to be able to actually have a conversation with the android KOS-MOS, who is said to be emotionless, in regards to his sister.

It is important to note that Jin seems to practice Buddhism.
