New endocrinologist appointment on Monday, August 16th, I hope I get treatment. oh, and I need to do blood tests before then to see how ( Read more... )

What kind of treatment would you get for your thyroid? It sucks to inherit the bad stuff from our parents. :(

Well, if I my thryoid is hyper (overactive) right now (which I thinkn it is, based on symptoms) - it would be antithyroid medication to stop my thyroid from being so damned hyper!

If it's hypo (underactive) - it would be thyroid replacement hormones to bring my hormone levels back up.

At least, that's what I think. That's how it's normally treated, but I have a thyoid autoimmune disorder (Hashimoto's) so the treatment might be a tad different. I just hope this doc treats it so it doesn't progress.

I went to Johns Hopkins and the Endocrinologist there told me "your thyoid will almost definitely fail within 10 years, if not, then definitely 20" and that there's nothing to do about it until my blood levels are off (which they may be now, have to check).

HA! I'm not going to sit by and watch my body destroy my own organ when there IS something I can do about it, whether my blood levels (thyroid hormones) are actually off or not!!!!

Sorry to hear about your thyroid!

Did you know my neck is straight and arthritic? I was really shocked when my new doc ordered the x-rays and showed them to me.

Well, we caught the thyroid stuff early, so I'm hoping it's not too bad yet, and that treatment will slow the progression of the disease. I should go get a copy of my x-rays, as I have the report, but not the x-rays and that'd be interesting to see!

Eek, I'm sorry about your neck, does it hurt? That is probably adding to the migraines. I've heard that Botox for migraines is also injected in the neck to relax those muscles. Maybe that will help. When are you going for the Botox? (Didn't you post in the migraines community that your insurance approved the Botox?)

Yep. My doc is pretty certain my neck has a lot to do with my migraines, as new theory is that tightened muscles set off nerve impulses to start migraines.

I get the Botox done on Mon. I think. That's my next appt. with the doctor who will be doing it, any way. I'm nervous!

It will be ok. A little weird to have Botulism Toxin Type A injected in you, hehe. But, let's hope it works! I can't imagine it'll make anything worse. Definitely let me know how it goes.

now, if there was a G5 powerbook or ibook, i'd be drooling all over the place, iMacs are not my favorites. it doesn't know what it wants to be - desktop or laptop! it has an identity crisis.

but yes, G5.... *sigh*
