So I was cleaning the shower because it was really gross and mildewy, and I was doing some hardcore scrubbing with diluted bleach solution and that bleach powder stuff. Smart people don't use BLEACH for cleaning showers.

Rather, smart people don't use bleach in any poorly ventilated area. You should have turned on the ceiling exhaust and set up a box fan to keep the air moving.

It didn't really help. The ceiling fan is, well, on the ceiling. By the time the gas reached there, I would have been dead.

Damn, well I'm happy you didn't get super duper unconsious-sick, but that sure sucks. I once inhaled a good amount of glacial acetic acid in polymer lab once... I had a boil in my nose full of it until I ripped it out. Okay, bad random story, I guess it was my pathetic attempt to say I'd been in a situation similar to yours. Either way, glad you're okay.
