I just got done reading "cat's cradle" and maybe i'm just a little dense, but I don't get it. I don't see why it is supposed to be good. I don't understand "bokononism". I couldn't wait to get done with it. I liked "slaughterhouse" and "welcome to the monkey house" but definately not this one. The only things I liked about it were ice nine and the ( Read more... )

i started reading 'cat's cradle' once and really didn't get into it. from what i've heard, it sounds like a pretty interesting book, but i doubt that it is one of his finest. i wasn't even that crazy about 'slaughterhouse,' especially after it was hyped up so much as being a classic. really, i think 'breakfast of champions' is his best, followed by 'bluebeard,' 'sirens of titan,' and 'mother night.' 'galapagos' is good too - seriously, i haven't read so many, i can't say for sure, but i really don't think 'cat's cradle' or 'slaughterhouse' are a very good representation of his writing

it's been so long since i read that book, i barely even remember it. But, i do remember enjoying it a lot. He is kind of a quirky writer, and i don't think it's essential to like every book someone writes. Especially when someone has written so many. So, just cos you didn't like this book, doesn't mean that he sucks. You said you enjoyed the other books you read, so I think you made that decision based on those books not just me.

I think you should give him another shot and maybe read "breakfast of champions" or "Sirens of Titan" (this one is kinda weird too).
