Goodbye Facebook...

Feb 02, 2015 11:20

I've been gone a long time. I was sucked into the world of Facebook, putting up with an increasingly obnoxious barrage of advertising, game updates and 'invitations' and finally, being notified by Facebook that I can ONLY use my 'real, legal name' for my profile. -_- That's the final straw. If I cannot have a degree of anonymity in my online ( Read more... )

Aaaaand.... I just realized that this posts to my facebook account... bahahahahahahahah
Awesomeness. However, dear Facebook friends, realize that I CANNOT SEE your posts, because I am locked out of my McTwigerson account.
If you want to stay in touch with me, you'll have to do it here.

Welcome back! We've missed you.

I made the Farcebook (Facepalm; Fuckbook; Zuckerberg's Folly) mistake myself. When I finally left it, I went to Google+, and left it because they had Facepalm envy, and ended up doing a combo of here and Diaspora. ( https://joindiaspora.com/i/4ff2bbba02b1 ). It's a good balance, and still totally respects your privacy - by design.

I also have a new "public me" blog where I put my name on my ideas and own up to them. mr-spock-rocks.com

I'll be seeing you around!

Thanks for the warm welcome :) I actually joined Diaspora as well (under Twigsy McTwigerson - which was my facebook profile name). I'm not completely sure how that works though, do you have to use the same 'pod'? I was dismayed at the lack of the ability to create a photo album and lack of groups (or 'communities')

I found you, and added you as a contact. *grin*

I find that hashtags there work sort of like groups or communities - anyone following a hashtag sees everything posted using that hashtag.

I can understand that the hashtag works that way, but it doesn't isolate your comments strictly to those following that hashtag, therefore it doesn't do what I want it to do. I post some pretty um... well, offensive things in some of the groups I care about. I love the fact that there is such a freedom of expression within that environment, without being open to the outside world.

I've already re-created two of my favorite groups from Facebook here. One of them I started (Secular PTSD/C-PTSD Survivors) and the other I did NOT create (We Fucking Love Atheism). heh I suppose you can see how the second one would get a little.... 'free spirited' so to speak.

Always saying "Yes" if someone abandons this data hole.

This makes me miss the 'Like' button, so I'll just post a somewhat meaningful comment instead ;)

Better that it's missing. This thing collects a lot of data.

Actually, I was just planning to write a post questioning the true reasoning behind WHY the hell 'farcebook' is forcing people to use their true identity. It raises some serious questions. I'm definitely NOT a paranoid conspiracy theorist, I detest that sort of garbage, but this is a bit different. This goes beyond marketing data collection and makes me wonder.... I know of NO other sites online that force you to use your true identity, and not just for account creation, but you actually have to POST under that name as well. Seems very suspicious to me. They've finally gone just a little bit too far for my tastes.
