LJ Idol Week 6--Topic: Ghosts

Oct 28, 2008 20:58

I don't have a ghost story to tell. I know and have known many people who have seen ghosts, had unexplained events happen to/around them, and otherwise experienced supernatural phenomena. But, not me. I have yet to see a single spirit, unless you count bottles of rum. I've seen (and helped consume) a lot of those. ;) Still, I'm terrified by ( Read more... )

I think sanatoriums - especially abandoned ones - are so much creepier than grave yards. Perhaps the "energy" of the psychological turmoil is somehow imprinted in these places ... or not. But it's still an interesting thought. : )

Oh, and I really like your entry! :)

Thanks! :) With rare exceptions, I find graveyards to be peaceful and not creepy at all. I've never been to an abandoned sanatorium (just to the park near this one), but I can definitely see how that would be creepy, especially in one like Waverly Hills where there was a large death toll (though not as large as legend claims).

Well, before I went, I wanted to go too. ;) I still like reading about Waverly Hills Sanatorium (history and ghost stories), but that's about as close as I want to get to it now. Heh.

Oh yeah, me too. There's a tunnel under the building that has been called the "Body Chute" and there's a movie about the Sanatorium called "The Death Tunnel" (I think) because of legend surrounding that tunnel. It's claimed that bodies were sent down that tunnel to get them down the hill so the people at the hospital wouldn't know how many were actually dying there. It was used to transport bodies, but it was because it was the easiest way to get down the hill. Some of the staff used the tunnel to get to and from work, and at least one of the TB patients used it to sneak out sometimes to get burgers for her and her friends. Heh.

Sounds a very creepy place. Like another commenter I'd need to be paid to take a tour. :)

Yeah, I'd have to be paid *a lot* of money to do it too. :)
