Ack, I had a whole post written out and then I made the dumb mistake of turning off my pop up blocker so I could preview and lost the whole thing. :*( So behind the cut I'll try again. :P ( My thoughts on HBP: Major Spoilers )
It's funny, because on reflection, I think we actually saw less of Ginny in this book than we did in OotP. There she was being herself; here all we saw was The Object of Harry's Affections. She did come off as fairly perfect, but I think that's because Harry was in the throes of a wicked case of lust and saw no wrong with her.
Or JKR really intended her to be perfect, but we can fix that in fanfic. ;)
I think Perfect!Ginny should be noble and sacrifice herself to spy on the Death Eaters, namely Draco Malfoy, don't you? ;) *plot bunnies running around head*
She should. While Harry's off saving the world with Ron and Hermione, she sets out to prove herself, and she ends up caught in a tumultuous relationship with Draco, who would put being with her above being a hero.
It's funny how I don't get annoyed by the H/G. By the end of the book I still stand on my opinion that their love is so...shallow. I still have my faith that Ginny would then run off with Draco. I could see it...in my fanfic. LOL.
And I can't stop thinking that scene in the compartment...where Pansy mentioned that a lot of guys like Ginny and then she watched out for his reaction from the corner of her eyesi. Damn, that just makes my day!
I gritted my teeth and bore the Harry/Ginny gracefully- meaning I flinched when he kissed her and didn't follow my insticts and yell, "No!"
Snape's loyalties remind me of the poisoned cups in The Princess Bride. You can guess what JKR is thinking, you can double guess, then there are the awkward triple and quadruple guesses. I think Snape is still "good," after all, he was bound to either kill Dumbledore or die himself if Draco failed, but then, I have this wicked little hope that Snape really is evil, if only because I would love to see someone slide back into folly, just to give exposition on why someone would follow Voldemort this time around. But really, i beleive that Snape was acting on Dumbledore's order. After all, who knows what that potion was doing to the old man.
And yep, I thought of Regulus, too, if only because I have deep hopes for the Blacks still being important.
Yeah.. Snape is evil, I believe. As for the H/G... I was really bothered, I could not stand it. Yipes. I was sad that Dumbledore died. I never let myself think that it would be him but then, as almost everyone predicted, he snuffed it. :( Sad. I was also delighted with the Draco morphing into 3-Draco. Haha. And I was sad to see him cry. Poor guy... what he's facing... Harry is definitely cooler this time around (except for the liking Ginny part. WTH?!?!)
Harry is definitely cooler this time around (except for the liking Ginny part. WTH?!?!) Agreed. So much easier to enjoy the book when you aren't annoyed by the main character. I pretty much glazed through the H/G parts though, because ugh, so cliche. JKR is a fine writer, just not of romance.
After posting my thoughts, I have read so many negative/pissy reactions that I'm just done with everyone. If they can't see how absolutely brilliant HBP is, then screw 'em. My God, it blew the house down.
Negative reactions to HBP? Really? Almost everyone on my f-list loved it (because the vast majority of people on my f-list love Draco and the Slytherins, I guess.) It was sooooo much better than OotP, which was a drag to finish and I only finished it because I thought I should and haven't re-read it since. Yay character development!
