I got the book about 11 am this morning delivered from Amazon, having finished re-reading HBP at 4 a.m. last night.
Loved nearly everything except the freaking epilogue, which reminded me of very bad fanfic. :P I pretty much always hate it when a series ends twenty years in the future with dogged determinism, since I rarely agree with the writers' endings. I do admit to peeking at the epilogue about 400 pages in, went "argh" and returned to reading the story. My opinion is that JKR is a gripping mystery/adventure writer, but when it comes to romance, she's more tell than show, which makes her ships unbelievable to me. In combination with just having seen the OotP movie, Luna seems such a more natural match for Harry than Ginny, but whatever, not like I didn't expect it.
Random thoughts:
I *heart* Harry's obsessive nature and how he puzzled out the Hallows.
About 300 pages in when the Trio hadn't even figured out how to destroy one horcrux or find any others I was wondering how on earth this story was going to possibly end in another 350 pages.
Enjoyed learning about Dumbledore's family history. And finally we meet Abelforth and his goat patronous!
Kreacher. How cute was he after Harry gave him Regulus's locket? Glad to see him at the end with all the house elves.
Also happy that Draco and Narcissa turned out all right in the end.
Oh Snape, so sad, all his years of pining.
Good to see Ron and Neville have their chances to wield the sword. I must admit to giggling at the thought of seeing the Riddle Harry/Hermione in the movies.
Luna remaining luminous and calm as always being pleased with her spellwork while Death Eaters attacked.
