Free Museums

I think I am spoiled I grew up near DC, museums have always been free never understood the idea of paying for one when I can go to the best for free.

I'd imagine that the ones in DC are federally funded museums that are paid for via taxes.

Smaller and/or private museums -- especially those in states that don't hold the same political power -- are dependent on patrons of the arts, public donations, and admission fees to pay their staff to make up the difference (assuming they get any state and local tax assistance).
