I'm very torn right now. In three directions. Ouch.

Over the course of my life, I've learned that I don't do terribly well with simultaneous projects, because I always get really, really excited about one of them and ignore the others. It's a mess, and I don't care for messes. So, Option #1 (starting all 3 right now) is out ( Read more... )

Peters always said that to truly edit well, you need to put your work in a drawer and not look at it for a year. So giving The Man a rest to work on something that has a lot of momentum right now might not be bad; however long it sits, you'll come back with fresh eyes, and you'll have the chance to, guilt-free, listen to whatever is wanting written the loudest.

You're very right, and as soon as my critique group culminates, I plan to do just that. But there are places I already know need changing/fixing, and I'm trying very hard to just leave it alone. My anal retentiveness isn't doing me any favors here. :)

Ok, I had typed out a nice comment earlier but couldn't post - let's give this a go and see how it works out!

First of all, your writing is always wonderful. Whether it be a blog, short story or novel; I always love to read what you write.

That being said, a lot of authors, even the wonderful Stephen King, will start a novel and then set it aside for years before looking at it again. I think that you need to do what feels right. If you are this enthusiastice and excited about your new novel then I say type away. Let your excitement flow through your fingertips and if this novel comes to a point of feeling stale, set it aside and go back to your other pieces.

I know you, and I know you'll do what needs to be done.

Hello Ms. Rebecky! I think I'm going to get through the whole planning process with the new novel and then see how I'm feeling. You know me, though, I'm impatient and stubborn and will probably wind up starting it soon even though in reality I should probably wait until November and do it for NaNo. Meh.
