That's called lucid dreaming, and yes, very much so you can have contact with all manner of people, including those passed on. It's something you can even court actively if you like. I suggest books and research by Richard Waggoner. (I think that's how it's spelled.)

How wonderful that he took the time to come find you and tell you that. How very much he must love you.
