The token "Am I A Bad Mommy" thought for the day

So, I've been reading notodette 's preschool-finding saga.  (For those of you who aren't friends with her, you should totally wander over to her journal sometime.  She's been a RL friend for well over a decade, and is now a Mommy-blogger extraordinaire and internet celebrity, as well as having twins).  Like me, she's a stay at home Mom.  Recently, I had a ( Read more... )

You are not a bad mommy. If I were a SAHM I would want a break too. It's nice to get chores done without a toddler underfoot. Stuff takes me twice as long with my 13 month old unfolding laundry after I fold it, or pulling stuff out of the drawers after I put them away.

Whaaaaaaat? You are not a bad mommy for needing some time away from your kid! I, for one, am insanely jealous of your babysitter. My house could really use some cleaning - Theo also doesn't really go for long stretches of playing by himself (I almost wrote "playing with himself", haha oops that would be disturbing), so at most I can get maybe the dishes done or whatever. Also, he doesn't nap for very long, and he won't nap at ALL unless someone is there next to him. So.

You know what? There are moms who get a nanny (or two nannies!) the moment their kid is born. There are moms who will just leave their kids on their own, in a playpen or plopped in front of the TV, for hours at a stretch while they clean or whatever. At least you know that she's being engaged and having fun at the babysitter. I think that's actually the opposite of selfish.

Heh, thanks. I needed that.

In retrospect, after writing this, I think I feel MORE guilty about not really feeling terribly guilty about leaving her, if that makes sense. Like leaving her there SHOULD bother me.

I dunno. I still don't know how other SAHM's get ANYTHING done without a sitter with one baby, let alone people who have more kids!

And I'm tellin ya, get Elizabeth's Pantley's "No Cry Sleep Solution" or "No Cry Nap Solution." It'll change your life. :)
