New semester

A new semester is here. It doesn't seem like it'll be terribly rough, though I will want to be sure to study art history quite a bit. Actually I think the hardest class this year surprisingly will be Acting. Ugh. So far we've done nothing but these little exercises that have you thinking up stuff on the spot. Couple that with dancing around in ( Read more... )

Good luck on your classes this semester!

That acting class actually sounds fun to me, but I enjoy dancing and acting and I'm always using my hands when I talk, so... =\

Congrats on getting into that art history class, and good luck with it! And good luck with surviving band!

I always envy how open people like you can be. I feel terribly awkward and self-conscious when I have to do strange things. The only exception is cosplay, because it's like putting on a mask and becoming invisible, disappearing and giving up your identity to the person you dress as. Maybe it'd be easier if I put on a mask in class. :P

Really, I've been swinging to both sides of the spectrum with being shy and being outgoing all my life. I was really out there in elementary school, really shy in middle school, then more outgoing in high school (and college). Recently I've been trying to be more outgoing because if I can act however I want in public normally, it'll come more naturally to me when I cosplay ( ... )

Nuu, don't say your comment is pointless, because it isn't. I think I was always kind of a reserved kid and it just got worse. But you're right, it's more worthwhile to do fun things at the risk of looking odd. Singing is very fun, and when I'm alone I randomly change my voice trying to speak like someone I heard in a cartoon or video game (just the other day I was trying to do english Rock Lee). I love professional voice actors, and while my chosen path is leaning toward the art side of cartoons, it's probably handy to know a dose of both drawing and acting. Like DisneyI just can't shake the thought of embarassment though. I'm just not much of an extrovert. Also, I'm not much of a quick thinker, things have to be planned out. For instance, I typed and erased quite a few sentences in this very post. Everything I'm saying has been carefully edited and re-read to ensure that it doesn't make me look stupid to you. But one of my in-class exercises was, like I said, make a dance based on your feelings. "Whatever you're feeling ( ... )

Yay! My brother is taking an acting class! Before you know it, you'll be the one auditioning for musicals, and tap-dancing, and coming out to take a bow with ME applauding from the audience. :p

Seems appropriate though. I think it was you who mentioned the quote that animators are just shy actors. Hope the class starts to get fun for you, hehe. Keep me posted!

Yeah, as my animation teacher said, animators are shy actors. They enjoy the attention just as much, but prefer people to applaud what they've made and not themselves directly. "Don't look at me, look at this!"

Hmm, I'm not sure If I'd ever actually act, like in a play. I might give voice acting a try though, if I get good enough and an opportunity arises. I feel I have more talent potential in my voice than my body.
