A while back my Thunderbird crashed and took all my archives with it. Don't know how or why. Anyway, I never reinstalled it. I've been using gmail through its web interface and have to say I'm kind of liking it. I'm not drawn to check it all the time. I don't get the little "oooh I've got mail" notices. They've added some side bar features that ( Read more... )

Netflix -> XBox totally rocks, even though Sony pulled their content. The kids were going through 124 Pink Panther cartoons last night. And I got lost going through Emergency, Adam-12, and Quincy.

If you want to, you can always use any mail client (Thunderbird, etc.) to access Gmail, so you have the best of both worlds. Just use IMAP instead of POP so everything stays in sync.

I had been using Thunderbird and everything was going nicely and being neat. But then I woke up one day and everything in Thunderbird had been deleted. Mailboxes, settings everything. Gone. I never redid it all. And am now kind of happy about it. Kind of like I'm rather smug that I don't have a crackberry and that I don't get my email in the train station. Less is way more in my book.

I can see that -- I have a friend who periodically deletes his entire inbox. He figures that if it was important, they'll write again. :)

I don't get the little "oooh I've got mail" notices.

I have a Firefox plugin called Gmail notifier that puts a little notifier box at the bottom of my browswer to let me know when I have mail. It can do alerts.

The Google Firefox toolbar also has one.

But it sounds like you don't actually *want* the notifications. :)

You are correct. I don't want any alerts or bells or whistles. I don't even have ADD and find it all too distracting. Also, as isolated as I am in my tower of Phd-dom I am learning to work a little harder at in person connection instead of defaulting to internet face time as easier and more available, which it is, but isn't as satisfying or, for me, as healthy.

DO NOT MESS WITH THE COOKING SHOWS!!! That is ASSuming they end up feeding you delicious culinary treats.

FYI..In Canada duct tape comes in a rainbow of colours. You can go to Canadian Tire to get it! Or Home Depot, Lowe's and other U.S. stores. But I will NOT let you go to Wal-Mart. They're evil.
