1. Victims
He tells himself that he is only stalking the boy because he wants his ability to fly. Nevermind that he could use his TK to achieve a similar effect. Nevermind that there are multiple fliers in the world - for some reason, it was a common mutation. Nevermind that the boy is dating the cheerleader. Well, if he was honest with himself - and while he was a murderer, he was an honest murderer - maybe a bit because of the cheerleader. If he’d been able to utilize Candice’s powers, he would have just mimicked the boy. Instead, he’d have to kill him.
2. Motives
The more he follows the boy - West, an even worse name than Gabriel - the more he is intrigued by him. He isn’t what he was pretending to be. Sylar is certain that West is older than he pretends. He is also certain that he has ulterior motives for dating Claire. He is also aware that those motives aren’t the usual ones a man has when rendezvousing with a blonde teenager. He isn’t sure what is worse; West’s stalking of her or his stalking of her boyfriend in order to be closer to her. The boy still has to die, though.
3. Urges
If he has to watch the two kiss anymore, he is going to kill someone. Maybe multiple someones, and he knows exactly who his first victim is going to be. The boy who dared to sully the cheerleader deserved to die. The bush that he is hiding behind starts to freeze over, and Sylar realizes he needs to get a stronger grip on his emotions. His primary objective is to kill the boy. He doesn’t need to get distracted by the girl. She is nothing to him other than a future victim. That’s all he’d ever allow her to be.
4. Amusements
The day that Peter shows up is one of the best days that Sylar has ever had. All his favorite victims, all in one convenient place. The meeting of Peter and West is ever-so-delightful to spy on. Who would’ve guessed that the man who prefers to act like an emo teenager and a supposedly real teenager would have conflicted so much? Sylar hadn’t factored in the effects of testosterone. As the two are posturing for the position of alpha male in the cheerleader’s life, neither notices that the girl is no longer standing there watching them. He has her now.
5. Drugs
Sylar doesn’t know what to do with her now that he has her. Every time he kills her, she heals as he hesitates on the follow-through. He keeps her tied to their cheap motel bed, and attempts to keep her sedated with cheap booze and the contents of the local drugstore. When that doesn’t work, he gets help from the front desk manager. The GHB seems to be working for now, so he’s bought a few more minutes to think. What could he do with an unconscious teenager chained to his bed? He can only think of one answer. Hmmm….
6. Teddies
He has made the trek back into town just to break into her room. He glances around, noticing all the stuffed teddy bears. He grabs clothes from her closet, and an extra pair of shoes. He hesitates before he rifles through her underwear drawer. He’s ashamed of himself, but infuriated that the girl knows so little of her sexuality that she owns nothing that’s not plain white cotton. Before he returns to the hotel, he stops at Victoria’s Secret in the mall. She awakes to find that he’s tried to replace all of her teddy bears with black lace teddies.
7. Fears
They move from city to city, skipping around the country. He is on the run from Bennet and the Petrellis. He knew what they’d do to him if they caught them. She is on the run from her life. She can’t count on anyone other than Sylar to treat her like she wanted to be treated. He is the one man that is completely honest with her but doesn’t treat her like a child. She doesn’t know what would happen to them if her dads found them, and she is scared to find out, so they just keep on running.
8. Showers
It had started raining before they made it to the hotel. She was drenched from their run through the unexpected shower, and he can’t stop staring at her in her wet clothes. She motions that she is going to go clean up, and he can’t stop himself from following her into the bathroom. It’s their first kiss, their first embrace, their first everything. She breaks the kiss to peal off her rain-soaked t-shirt and he loses all control. He still has no control over himself as he takes her against the wall of the shower, losing himself in her arms.
9. Star-Crossed Lovers
They both know it is going to end sometime. At some point, her family will find them or he’ll finally follow through on his threats. They know they are star-crossed lovers, a real-life Juliet and her murderous Romeo. He thinks it would be easier if he just walks out one night, leaving her to wake without him by her side for the first time in six months. She thinks it would be easiest to just walk out and call her uncle to come get her. Neither makes a move towards the door, but instead fall into each other’s arms again.
10. Endings
They’d caught up with them. It was over so very quickly. Peter covers the body on the floor with a soiled sheet. She begs the man in front of her to not do this. He shakes his head, and tells her that he must. The Haitian looks at her with pity in his eyes, then removes every memory she has of the last year and her late lover. He releases her into Peter’s waiting arms. She blinks at him and innocently asks “What’s going on?” He carries her from the room, blocking her eyes as he steps over Sylar’s corpse.
