Despite all his powers, he couldn’t do anything to stop her.
He was too engaged in his struggle with his inner demons to pay attention, at first.
Looking back, it was clear that the more he got near an apparent normalcy, mainly thanks to the child, the more she pulled away, working over time with Bennet, one-day assignments becoming normal who-know-how-many-weeks assignments.
Then, after Bennet’s death, she disappeared completely.
Peter had offered to find her, even absorbing Parkman’s daughter power. Knowing that she was alive was enough for Gabriel.
Despite all his powers, he couldn’t keep her in a cage.
