D-Day!

Jun 22, 2011 12:55

Well, here we are. 22nd June. Gosh.

I've been meaning to do trojan updates but I never get past a few lines before getting distracted by something else.

So, let's keep this short.

Today, I
  • had a great night's sleep! for the first time in a while.
  • indulged in some serious nesting - sorting out Wriggly's huge wardrobe, cleaning etc.
  • got a huge box of goodies in the post - I'll wait for luciddestiny to come home so we can open it together

    This week, I
  • had a surprise visit to West Mid, but not for myself. Thankfully everything turned out to be ok, and it was nice to see everyone.
  • watched too much TV and was bad at housework
  • had a last trip by myself into Brighton - did a few jobs (very slowly) and had lunch (very slowly) and sat on the beach (very slowly) and read my book (very fast). I'm obsessed with "the last time" now - not in a bad way, more in a "interesting that things are changing" way.

    Last weekend, I
  • had a big day out with family and friends - lunch, music and good conversation - and lots of gifts. A nice day.
  • went into town with luciddestiny and went to ChoccyWoccyDooDa, for the first time. I'm surprised I didn't pass out from the deliciousness of it.
  • spent some quality time with my wonderful husband...

Last week, I had a great time with my sister. We
  • went for walks in the park, to the village, to the shops - it was gorgeous weather, for a day at least - where's our summer gone?!
  • got fish pedicures - surprisingly pleasant, and very effective.
  • chilled out - watched TV, chatted and faffed around in the kitchen.
  • did some more nesting - I have the cleanest curtains in the world
  • watched me continue to grow - still. I can't believe how big I am. It's slightly ludicrous now - I look like I have a basketball up my t-shirt, especially since I haven't really filled out much elsewhere. However, we reckon Wriggly's not engaged any more, since I'm not waddling like I used to be. My poor hips are still protesting though - and I still am the slowest thing in the world.
  • celebrated jonnynexus's birthday - with food and drinking and visiting.

    This month, I
  • finished work for maternity leave. It was surprisingly difficult on lots of levels, we didn't hire my replacement until my last day of work (hmmm, handover = difficult), a bunch of issues got quite serious and we had some resourcing problems. On the other hand, I'd been working (with the support of my wonderful husband) on letting go, trying to just work 9-5 days and stepping back from micromanagement. In the end, I did spend the day after I finished tying up loose ends, but since then I've been doing nothing. It's strange now not to have all that work stuff to think about, but good strange :) roll on the next 24 weeks...
  • sorted out lots of stuff in the house - got a few jobs done, cleared out some clutter and got the nursery really properly finished, and practiced opening and closing the buggy, as well as installing the car seat. So, when you ask me, yes, the house is ready. The question is, am I?
  • was a lady who lunched - meeting up with other pregnant ladies to compare bumps and backache. There's a little gaggle of us, connected by facebook and text message, even as we each move into motherhood!
  • did a bit of socialising and went to the cinema - loved Senna, liked the new x-men film and wasn't particularly pushed about Handover 2. We also started watching Modern Family and Game of Thrones - both of which I love.

    Last month (May), I
  • celebrated LD's mom's birthday at her surprise birthday party.
  • worked hard and thought a lot about my job. Not that I came to any conclusions, other than it'll be interesting when I come back. I started to travel less, and the world didn't actually end - a lesson for when I go back, I think.
  • enjoyed lots of kicking and squirming from Wriggly, but also began to get a bit more tired at the end of the day - coming home in the evening to sit down and cooking only the most simple dinners.
  • thought a lot about impending parenthood, especially with our NCT course, which was brilliant - lots of nice people and a great way to tie together all the threads of knowledge from the books, internets, other moms etc and fill in the gaps!

So, that's it. The last few months flew by, but the last 3 weeks have really slowed down (as have I). I sleep a lot less now, but doze during the day, and am indulging in a lot of navel gazing (quite literally). I'm probably going mad, but I'm surprisingly happy pottering around, if a bit cabin-feverish at times. But more than anything I want to be pottering about with a little bundle in a moses basket beside me. Any minute now, I guess...
