Hello there! I had been wondering where you were :).
I'm not as active on LJ as I used to be, and nowadays I only ever dip into HP fandom for HoggywartyXmas. It's all Gawain comic and some Game of Thrones these days...
I'm so busy that I'm usually too tired to think and merely consume. Game of Thrones, hm? I always wanted to read these books and never got around to it. Do you have another blog?
Sorry for the very late reply :p - I have had a holiday so obviously I haven't got round to catching up with anything at all... (*sigh*)
I have several blogs, LJ, DW, and Blogspot. Just about all that goes on Blogspot goes on LJ/DW too, but not all that goes on LJ/DW goes on Blogspot. I don't do Tumblr or Twitter.
I think you'll find Game of Thrones worth your while if you get around to reading. The books have their flaws and I am a little bit worried about where the story is going, but the world is very well-thought-out and Martin creates great characters. I haven't written any fic since HP, but Martin's extensive descriptions are very inviting to artists ;-).
Thanks. I've subscribed to your Blogspot because I read mostly through a feed reader these days. Will have to look a bit more into dw, since things seemed to have moved there - but all these different platforms, not sure if I still can do it. Thanks for the rec, I'll now definitely read the Game of Thrones books (and catch up with your art.) I haven't written much since HP either, just been dabbling a bit in my own fantasies and admiring everyone who managed to build a world of their own, from scratch.
I suppose this is coincidence, if anything... I didn't get a notification for this post, but was just clearing my LJ inbox, found a message from you from waaaay back and thought let's see if she is still around... and voilà! :o) I hope all is well with you and your plans went at least mostly as intended!
Yay to having finshed the endless WIP! *\O/* I've rediscovered Tolkien and got sucked into the fannish part of his universe nearly a year ago and haven't read any Potterverse fic or books for about as long, so for the moment I'm saving it into my huge ebook reader file... one of the coolest facts about these gadgets is the possibility of having any kind of fanfic one ever intended to read available at all times.
Thanks. :) Ah - Tolkien. I never really got into the fannish part, because I can't find anyhting in his books that would need improvement ;) and I don't really have a OTP there. But I love all the books I could get my hands on so far. How do you save the fanfic to the ebook reader, is there a tool for that or do you do it by hand? I'll try to post again from time to time, I miss my friends here - but I don't really miss the fandom per se.
I hear you about fanfom vs. friends from fandom! For me, it feels like I'm slowly drifting out of it. The friends found here are much more important and interesting.
because I can't find anyhting in his books that would need improvement ;Well, if that is the motivation for writing fanfic, I fully agree - certainly not! But the lovely part is that his universe is so vast that the number of untold stories is enormous. I'm not thinking in OTPs at all, though I have my favourite set of characters - or rather race, I'm infatuated with the elves, but mainly in the pre-LotR ages. I've also become quite a fan of slash to my own surprise, though, like in the Potterverse, I'm usually more interested in gen or mostly gennish stories than in romantic or explicit ones
( ... )
Heh, thanks, you wrote a good tutorial there. I'm using calibre and know how to transfer the files - my problem is mainly laziness. I'm too lazy to copy or save chapter by chapter of favourite stories, especially since I prefer really long stories. If there was a tool that just -swoosh- links them together... the rest is a piece of cake. ;) I've been doing that stuff the hard way for far too long now. I still often use my ancient palm reader with pdf files for reading, because it is small and such a lightweight.
