The mountains are full of mystics

Today I visited Inwangsan, the mountain that hosts the most famous shamanist shrine in Seoul.  The shrine area itself was a bit densely packed--lots of narrow streets and stairways, all boxed in by small temples and houses.  I can't resist the tiny side paths, so I ended up wandering the mountain for most of the day, and only reached the main ( Read more... )

I could be wrong, but I think the locals frown on strange foreigners trying to climb zen rock. Also, you might be attacked by the guardian pigeons. You could probably get away with climbing some of the other rocks in the area, but of course they aren't nearly as big.

you are indeed wrong. I assure you that strange foreigners, as long as they are American in origin, have the right to climb any rock, zen or not. Preferably while blasting "Everything Zen" from a boom box strapped to their back.

Whoa! Are those.... real? It looks like those old Dairy Queen commercials where all the landscape was made out of rivers of fudge and icecream mountains.... mmmmmm.... the land of chocolate....

Yup, they're real. I wish I knew why the rocks around here are shaped like this. 'Course, I didn't think of the fudge and ice cream possibility...hmmm. Maybe I'll have to try licking them...although I think the locals would frown on that, too.
