...only endless permutations of the Korean alphabet.

So I have survived my first week of classes, during which I learned to read Hangul, the Korean writing system.  It's, um...relatively systematic, I guess.  Mostly phonetic, but (as I have come to discover) riddled with odd exceptions.  We haven't officially learned about the odd exceptions yet--I' ( Read more... )

I didn't find this boring at all, fascinating actually. It sounds definitely interesting, but to me somewhat like a nightmare as well. I mean this in as positive of a way as possible.

Also, I am shocked that you consumed beer. I have tried to force drink upon you for so long, and now here you are, participating in one of my favorite hobbies, beer drinking and fried chicken eating, and you are all the way in Korea.

I see how it is...

Hahaha :) What about it sounds like a nightmare? The endless pronunciation drilling? It does get kind of tedious, but I assure you, it's worth it.

Also, I understand your frustration about the beer consumption. Many others have felt the same way, I assure you. You must remember, though, it's not that I was ever morally opposed to drinking, I just never really felt the urge to get drunk--and being underage, I didn't really think it was worth the risk. Now that I'm over 21, I don't have to worry about parental disapproval or the intervention of the authorities, so I'll drink with friends every now and again. I've still never been REALLY drunk (and I doubt I ever will be), but tipsy can be fun.

I don't think I would too well in a windowless apartment. I get weird just from staying inside all day in my N/S facing place. I think I'd get claustrophobic. I am in awe of your adaptability.

Claustrophobia has never been a problem for me, but I do miss the sunlight. But at least I have my own place. None of this is as difficult an adjustment as living with my Japanese host family was...at least here there's no pressure to follow a neurotic host mother's unspoken rules!

See, the problem with that plan is I only get the sunlight AFTER I've crawled out of bed. I need it BEFORE I crawl out of bed, in order to make me want to crawl out of bed in the first place. But, you know, coffee/tea and breakfast is never a bad thing, even if said breakfast is one of those cruel, heartless breakfast pastries. :) Unfortunately, I can't afford to spend that much on breakfast. I can get free tea and coffee in my apartment building, though. Well...coffee mix, anyway.

hrmph, you have to go half-way around the world to finally stop being a morning person? Unfair I say!

I don't think it requires going halfway around the world--it just requires a room with no windows.
