I was actually fairly impressed with the article, it was a fair analysis of animal cognition and anthropomorphism, not just another "puppy prozac" article. Although I think they made a few major mistakes. For one, the existence of memory does not imply the existence of consciousness, otherwise my computer would be conscious.
And on the other hand, if animals are conscious, shouldn't we get their agreement before we start feeding them psychoactive drugs? Especially fairly strong anxiolytics like Xanax?
Oh, I also got another great band name from the article: "Psychotic Raging Cocker Spaniels"
I think Hiro is well enough adjusted that you won't need this stuff. It is scary how many people treat their dogs like humans instead of dogs. It isn't healthy.
