Sex-positive folks, please represent in this survey.

An acquaintance is asking for people to take a survey about "Internet pornography" and addiction.  The survey seems to be meant seriously, and thoughtful comments will likely be taken seriously.  I'm concerned that, because most of her friends seem to be conservative, we won't be represented proportionally.  If you feel like influencing the results ( Read more... )

This survey is terrible.

"Internet Pornography is harmless."
Harmless for whom? The person viewing, or the persons involved? I had to answer 'no', but I feel that gives an inaccurate representation of my feelings towards (Internet) porn.

"Have you tried to stop looking at Internet Pornography and found yourself unable to stop?"
This needs to be two questions, and there needs to be a 'Not Applicable' option.

"If you found out that a teacher at your children's school frequently looked at Internet Pornography, would you be upset?"
I can only select one answer? I would rather choose the first three.

Ugh. :/

(p.s. I have a porn-related dilemma that I really want to talk to someone about, but I need someone fairly neutral and sex-positive to discuss it with. Are you still sylvarusf on AIM? If you'd be able to listen and advise, I'd really appreciate it. I'll poke you next time I see you online.)

I am, but I'm hardly ever on IM these days. If you can find me online on Facebook, after 5pm, that's a better bet.

I entered the following in the comments textbox.
There is no such thing as an Internet pornography addiction. While there are people that have obsessive compulsive disorders that may involve porn, the scientific consensus is that porn is merely a manifestation, not the problem.

I did the survey. It was so biased that I'm not sure it'll do any good, though.

I know someone who uses internet porn in a destructive manner, but I don't really think that "addiction" to such things exists. It's certainly not possible to form a physical dependence on porn (or the internet, or gambling, or . . . )
