Snow in Calgary

Winter weather arrived here yesterday; it snowed lightly all day, and now the view out of the window is stereotypical winter whiteness. White sky, white lawns, white rooftops and trees full of snow. It's not all that cold, and the streets are perfectly clear and dry today, but still: all white. Maybe a hundred minor accidents on the city streets,

Orchids. Mmm, a difficult species to keep going. I can't even keep a citronella plant happy :)

Yeah! I love orchids, so I've tried to grow them before, and got nowhere: pfffff. Like that. But this time it's working. Some houses are good for houseplants, and some aren't, so it makes sense that some houses are good for orchids (but most aren't).

Hey, do you remember a horse-related novel by Jane Smiley, Horse Heaven, that I gave you a copy of a while back? She's written four girl-and-horses YA books in the past two years. I'm reading them now. They're great. I can't stop turning the pages, and I'm trying to figure out why. I don't like if you liked Horse Heaven or not, but if you did, you might like them too.
