STILL IN PROGRESS BECAUSE I AM SLOW.
part i.
Character name: Eddie Brock / Venom
Fandom: Marvel Movieverse
Species: Human with an alien symbiote attached to him.
Character powers: Eddie's an average human dude.
...
Oh yeah, and he's bonded with the Venom symbiote. I GUESS THAT'S IMPORTANT. So let's get some background. [Additional info on the symbiote's abilities taken from
here. I'm only going with the ones inferred in the film.]
The symbiote is an extraterrestrial, amorphous life-form that basically finds a host, bonds with it, and becomes a "living costume." Not only does the creature grant its host massively increased strength, durability, agility, speed and healing (it can even halt, but not cure, the progression of terminal illnesses), but it also has a genetic memory that allows it to gain characteristics and abilities from its host. Because this particular symbiote first bonded with Peter Parker, it shoots webbing and allows its host to stick to walls-- plus, it bypasses the Spidey Sense. And it grants its host some capacity to sense the presence of others nearby.
The symbiote is also capable of shape-shifting, appearing as normal clothing when it wants to, mimicking Spider-Man's costume, and even altering its host's appearance (in Eddie's case, he gets some delightful fangs even when the "mask" is off). It can also weaponize itself-- in the comics, it can shape shift into blades and tendrils, but in the film, it just sticks with its iconic MOUTH FULL OF HUGE FANGS. And claws. Since Eddie was only bonded to it for about a day, it's likely that he simply wasn't practiced enough to utilize the symbiote's weaponizing capabilities to their full potential. The symbiote can alter its size, growing up to over 7 ft. tall at one point and taking on a humanoid form, and shrinking to a small, squid-like blob of goo at another. It also makes an adorable screeching sound, like a baby dinosaur.
The symbiote doesn't change its host's personality completely, nor does it compel the host to do anything he/she doesn't want to do. Instead, it amplifies the feelings and impulses that are already present-- particularly aggression. Prior to bonding with the symbiote, Eddie already hated Peter Parker and wanted to see him suffer; bonding with it only makes him act on the impulse. The symbiote is similar to a drug in that it can become addictive and produce feelings of happiness/euphoria in the host. Possible side-effects may include dancing around like a total douche, aggressively playing the piano, accidentally hitting ex-girlfriends and a sudden onset of emo hair. If you're Peter Parker, anyway.
The symbiote is weak to intense fire and loud noises. When confronted with intense noises, it freaks out and tries to escape from it, even going so far as to release its host. It can be trapped in a "cage" of sound, and it can be destroyed with explosives, fire, etc.
If Eddie's ever separated from the symbiote, he loses all abilities granted by it immediately. Although it's difficult to remove, loud noises will make it try to flee, even if it means detaching from the host.
part ii.
1.) Is it acceptable for your character to be mind-controlled or persuaded? How susceptible are they to mind control, hypnotism, or suggestion?
Sure thing. I'm gonna say Eddie's more susceptible to mind control etc than the symbiote is, so how effective it'll be depends on which is more active/in control at the moment.
2.) Is it acceptable for your character to have their mind read? Does this include traumatic memories? What is their mind like (disturbing, orderly, joyful, surprisingly empty, etc.)? If the character has psychic walls or preventative measures against psychic interference, please explain.
Sure! His mind is going to be pretty disturbing, mainly because there's another presence in it. I figure the symbiote is "louder" than Eddie, but their minds are intertwined, so it's sort of a mishmash of a human mindscape and a very, very alien one. Conventional thoughts are probably difficult to pull from his mind, but emotions and images are easy.
No real traumatic memories, while we're on the subject. LOTS AND LOTS OF CHILDHOOD LONELINESS, THOUGH. And daddy issues.
3.) Are thoughts mentioned in narration acceptable for a telepath to pick up?
Sort of. There would be interference from the symbiote, so see above!
4.) What about emotions, in the case of an empath? What sort of general emotional reading would such a character receive from yours?
Yup! Emotions will probably be easier to pull than actual thoughts/memories. Again, an empath will probably be able to note that it's not just Eddie in there, but Eddie and the symbiote. Anger, aggression and hatred will be the prevailing emotions to pick up.
5.) Are there any aspects of your character's mind, emotions, or memories you would like to be picked up, mentioned, or used in character? Conversely, is there anything that should not be noticed, or at least never mentioned?
I'm so down with anyone picking up the presence of the symbiote.
part iii.
1.) Physically speaking, what stands out about your character? Imposing size? Physical scarring? Tattoos?
Eddie is COMPLETELY AVERAGE IN EVERY WAY. Nothing really stands out about his appearance, unless he's in Venom mode. As Venom, his entire body's covered in a black sentient "suit," and he's a bit bulkier... and he has razor-sharp teeth. If he reveals his face in this mode, you'll see thin black tendrils clinging to his skin and his teeth are still sharp and jagged, although less so than they are when he's in full "costume."
2.) Is your character immune to any of the following: poisons, chemical agents, telekinetic influence, radiation, or types of illnesses?
No, but the symbiote does grant him greater resilience than a normal human male. So, not immune, but not as easily susceptible to chemicals/poisons as a normal human.
3.) Is your character physiologically different from a human in any way? This can include their blood, skin, hair, et cetera being made up of something unusual or simply differing in construction and durability.
Eddie himself isn't, but he's bonded to an alien parasite. It lives on his skin underneath his clothes, except when it's fully "active" as Venom, then it's just covering his whole body in its... self.
Also, if your character has an enhanced sense of smell, I imagine they can smell the symbiote on him as a sort of extra, alien presence.
4.) Are you amenable to having your character be harmed in any way? How far are you comfortable with injury to you character going? Does this include being fed on by vampires, willingly or unwillingly?
Yup! Short of permanent maiming/killing, have at. And vampires can totally try to feed, but they may... BITE OFF MORE THAN THEY CAN CHEW :B
But seriously, he probably tastes really gross, and I imagine vampires can "smell" something alien about him.
5.) Is it acceptable for other characters with abilities of shapeshifting or disguise to imitate your character? Does this include ability mimicry?
Shapeshift into Eddie, sure! Symbiote... ask me first. Ditto for ability mimicry, although I'm leaning towards "no" on that one. I'm always willing to consider exceptions, though.
part iv.
1.) Can your character's presence or aura be noticed by other characters, and how would it look/feel to them? How would it manifest to a character with no supernatural abilities, if at all?
I'm gonna say no, specifically because the symbiote bypasses "Spidey Sense," so I assume it can bypass other types of... sensing... if that makes sense? If Eddie's NOT attached to the symbiote, for whatever reason, then have at. I have no idea what his aura would look/feel like, but I imagine it's something like "failure."
2.) Can your character be affected by magic spells and curses?
Yes. I don't think he's immune to magic; however, his resilience still applies, so while you can magic missile him, he'll probably recover faster than an average human.
3.) Can your character be affected by sin and corruption, and be tempted toward expressing their darker urges (of whatever flavor)?
Absolutely. That's his whole character arc. However, you'll have to fight the symbiote for him.
4. What sort of sins is the character prone toward, and how might they best be tempted, if you are interested in such an event?
WRATH. Pride, greed, lust... anything, honestly. But once he's bonded with the symbiote? It's wrath all the way.
He's easily led by his feelings of insecurity, inadequacy, etc. Humiliate him, and it'll trigger a rampage. But, again, anyone looking to tempt him will have to compete with the symbiote, since it obviously doesn't want anything edging on its territory.
5.) Are you amenable to the character receiving prophetic visions, including as part of a plot?
Sure, but he likely won't do much with it. Because he's an idiot.
part v.
1.) Is threadjacking allowed? Under what circumstances?
Yup, I don't care. The only thing I'd request is if two characters thread-jack privately (like, jumping into Eddie's post and then locking their conversation to each other) for more than 10 comments, to please take it to a new post, just so my inbox isn't spammed :V
2.) Is it acceptable for canonmates that are updated further than yours to inform your character of events yours has not yet experienced?
Yup.
3.) Are there triggering or upsetting topics you would like other characters to avoid mentioning to yours for the sake of continued comfort (racist words, homophobia, self-injury, etc.)?
Anything should be okay, although trigger warnings are always appreciated.
4.) Are there any additions you would like us to make to this survey?
I'LL THINK ABOUT IT.
