sometimes i don't understand the point of arguing about politics when emotions are at the core of our arguments (at the core of everything we do and say), and, as a result, are also unreasonable. but, if we didn't have emotions we wouldn't give a shit about anything occurring in our world...there wouldn't be a need for politics or debate. evolution ( Read more... )

Did you ever watch Snow Falling on Cedars? That's another good "WTF" movie, re: WWII. WE. HAD. CONCENTRATION. CAMPS. We also dropped a nuke on civilians.

On the other hand, I read the Art of War recently, and one of the ideas in that book is that war is unavoidable, but should be carried out as swiftly as possible to minimize the long-term destruction. And I mean, that's always been the big justification for the nuclear bombing of Japan.

There's no right answer.

I understand this, but I just wish US citizens felt more remorse (for Hiroshima, the air raids, etc) and acknowledge that japanese people are actually human.

Oh, and I really do need to see that movie. I read the book when I was 16 and I don't remember anything.
