at first i didn't dig it because i couldn't connect with it on an emotional level, but now i find that it creates a much-needed peaceful atmosphere in my room.

Thinking back on it, I think this might actually have been the *very* first jazz CD I ever bought:

If you dig Monk, definitely check out some of the earlier stride piano players: James P. Johnson, Fats Waller, Art Tatum, etc. They were big influences on his playing, and I always liked them a bit better than Monk's bebop-playing peers.

until i start making money this summer, i'm sticking to rhapsody for his music, but i will definitely order this once i get the chance.

i also noticed that i cannot comment on your blog entries, or maybe i haven't found a way to? i'm really digging the haikus.
