as a new teacher, i am part of an industry (education) that is consumed by statistics. and, so far, the only thing i have learned from statistics is that they can't be trusted. think about how many people, at one point in time or another, have tried to lose weight. not 5% of people who tried weight watchers. not 5% of people who were consistent and made daily changes. not 5% of people who did it in a healthy manner. you can make numbers say anything you want them to. the important thing to remember is that you are not a number.
and a lifestyle chance doesn't necessarily have to have a negative connotation to it. personally, i would consider having a baby as a lifestyle change and that doesn't seem like it's been so bad...
anyway. that's my rant. i'm trying to have give out a positive attitude in hopes that i can use it to talk myself into getting to the gym tonight. i've been slacking the past two day...
i tend to be drawn to statistics. in this case, it does seem unlikely that the figures are very accurate since, like you said, a huge number of people try to lose weight, in many different ways.
having a baby is definitely a lifestyle change and it's been a good thing! but, i love to eat delicious, unhealthy food and of course i hate working out as much as the next person. it's hard to come to terms with the fact that it's going to be a battle, every day, but i'm working on that.
thanks martha v! it seems like you're doing a great job yourself! i know you've lost a lot of weight since i left college and kept it off for several years. you're an inspiration!
