I decided to do a lot of new challenges, one being the fanfic 100 original challenge.
So, using all my original characters, I will post 100 fics. Haha.. I have at least one done, featuring my Muses Elijah and Demetra.
Enjoy!
Elijah thought Demetra looked like a booger. When he was five and she was four, he made a habit out of calling her, “Lil’ boogy” when addressing her and she had the most god awful habit of bursting into a million tears on the spot.
At five, it was a great triumph for Elijah to hold over anyone’s head, especially annoying little sisters who looked like boogers.
It would happen very casually, like this:
“Eliiijah? Can you come outside an’ play with me?”
“Sure, Lil’ Booger!”
“MOMMA!!!”
“ELIJAH! STOP CALLING YOUR SISTER NAMES!”
And little did he know that she thought there was something terribly wrong with her, because mind you, she was only four and couldn’t be expected to take a joke half as well as a five year old. Elijah didn’t mind having a laugh when her face screwed up in anger, but when she started to cry he suddenly felt like a very very bad brother. He hadn’t ever admitted to her, and usually he would just sigh and say, “Sorry,” as if he weren’t sorry at all and then she would stop crying and they would go outside to play.
But one day... even after he said his apologies, she didn’t stop crying. She sobbed harder and harder and since their parents were inside, Elijah suddenly felt it was his job to do the right thing to make her happy again, even though it was he who caused all the unhappiness in the first place.
“Deme, watcha makin’ sucha fuss for? I didn’ mean it.”
“It don’t matter if ya meant it, I still look like one!” wailed she, and her tiny body shook and shook from her violent fuss.
Elijah, who had a bit of a change of heart (for the attitudes of Muses of Art were prone to quick variation), suddenly had a brilliant idea.
“You don’t look like a booger, Demetra. You look like... an apple. A real shiny, real sweet apple.”
His brilliant plan didn’t seem to work at first, because she continued to blubber into her bottle green hands even after hearing such a compliment. Elijah frowned and thought perhaps it was best that he go get mother or father to handle the situation, but then suddenly he heard a very small and very muffled voice.
“Really, Eli?”
Demetra lowered her hands from her face and stared up at him with eyes that glistened like emeralds, big and damp with fresh tears. He nodded, and then something real special happened, Demetra’s lips curled like a ribbon into the brightest smile Elijah had ever seen and quick as rabbit, she was on her feet and flinging her chubby arms around his body.
“You’re tha’ best Elijah!”
That day, he realized that as funny as it was to see Demetra putting on her angry face, he preferred her smile much more and it turned out when she was happy, she wasn’t half as annoying as he thought.
“Lets go play with Iggy, Okay Lil’ Apple?”
“Kay.”
