Poll time!

Hey, it's been awhile since I did a poll, okay?

Let's keep it simple. I've been watching Enterprise, and aside from the theme song (DEAR GOD WHY???), it's really not so bad. Anyways, this makes me think of great sci-fi TV shows... so here are a few to pick from. Decide: Which is the best?

Look, there are a LOT of SF shows... and a LOT I like and ( Read more... )

I would have voted for BSG hands down if we were still prior to the Starbuck returns episode. The abuse of premises got to me at that point, alas (although it started somewhere around Kobal and got pretty bad when they found the temple that pointed to earth).

B5 was laid out from the beginning and, whatever its other failings and struggles, had an entangled and interesting dramatic story arc that changed all of its characters, even when the last season got shortened abruptly. It was just better science fiction, even though BSG had better production values, acting, cinematography, and more gripping drama (early on).

I completely agree with you here.

I especially loathed the BSG series finale. What a load of fucking shit that was. The more I think about it, the more I dislike it.

I've never watched the last season, if that tells you anything.

Many people would have. I'll save it for a future poll. :)

BSG all the way. Good from beginning to end. Only Star Trek the original series had anything to compete with it from what I've seen. People are really hot on B5, but after watching Season 1, I still can't bring myself to sit through Season 2. Sure, I hear it gets better, but damn if it isn't painful to get there.

Season 1 is just character introduction. The real story doesn't pick up until season 2. The also change out one of the major characters who wasn't really working out as a character (the commander of B5, he is still a major character, but he shifts roles and gets no screen-time at all until season 3).

If you had skipped season 1 entirely you would have lost some nuance perhaps with most of the characters, but you would have seen an entirely different show, and you might have a different opinion.

When I first saw some season 1 episodes I was unimpressed too, but my mom kept watching and she talked me into giving the show another chance. I was really glad she did, and now I have watched the entire series three times.

Sometimes skipping Season 1 is good for people... but the whole Sinclair thing will be lost on them.

The story that builds between season 2 and 3 becomes awesome.

I've been meaning to check out Andromeda for a long time, despite the shortcomings I've heard about. My dad seems to be of the same opinion. He loved it but then it fell apart, he says.

Thanks for your insight on this... fascinating! :)
