As it always was it shall always be...

Heya! Thanks for the nice responses to my last post (both public and private). It's always neat to see folks from all parts of the political-social spectrum getting into something. One thing I would like to address, which may or may not be of interest to you, is how I feel on Republicans.

Check it: I don't hate US Republicans. Well, not REAL ( Read more... )

Three of my favorite presidents were Republicans: Lincoln, TR, and Ike.

Since the 80s, we've had Reagan and two Bushes and them? Meh. Especially as they moved to dismantle institutions and legislation that their own party were catalysts for.

But that's the nasty side-effect of the Civil Rights Act, and the mass defection of Southern Democrats for ya.

I with you on those choices, and I completely hear what you're saying. I was actually having a similar discussion with a friend the other day.

A party is made of people. It's the people that suck.

Unfortunately, IMHO, the Republicans have more people that don't jibe with my definition of, well, "freedom".

I know more than a few Democrats I wanna smack too, tho.

Yeah, I'm with you there. I generally avoid anything Republican out of instinct anymore. I look at it like this: If 70% of outspoken ambulance drivers became aggressive cannibals and stayed that way for 20 years, I seriously doubt I would call 911-- ever. Sure, some, or maybe even most-- like a silent majority-- aren't insane, hostile, man-eating freaks, but I'll avoid them all the same, thank you.

Besides, outspoken liberals are so much easier to swallow. Well, in a non-cannibalistic way, I mean.

Anyone so indebted to their ideologies that they can't remotely see someone else's viewpoint or realize that "the other side" may ACTUALLY have some valid points is a fucking moron. I don't give a shit what party you belong to.

Willfully ignorant and closeminded isn't specific to one party.

You are totally right. I... I'll try to be more understanding of cannibals from now on.

But seriously: YES. A good society is comprised of all kinds of people from many different walks of life, each with their own perspective/s. Everyone is the absolute center of their own, respective universe-- and it's good to respect universes.

The greatest struggle is to be tolerant and kind towards people who are just complete arseholes.
