suggestions? tutorial requests?

I like writing tutorials, but I can't ever decide for which icons. So here's where you can ask me to write a tutorial for a specific icon of mine (please don't go too far back in my icon posts; I only keep my pds's for so long :P)

Also, I'd love requests for what to icon. That means no specific picture requests but general themes. Give me ideas ( Read more... )

Hee :)) There'll always be more LotR icons ;)

That icon's actually based on this tutorial.
Additionally to the steps there, I first run the auto correct options of PS on the base (Auto Levels, Auto Contrast, Auto Color) before following the tutorial. I also changed the Multiply layer to Color Burn and set it at 15%. Then I added a Selective Color Layer to get rid of the too much red (because red tree barks just don't look natural at all). I only changed the Reds, upping Cyan (+30%) and Yellow (+12%) and decreased Magenta (-1%) and Black (-2%). Method was Absolute. I then merged all layers onto a new layer (Select All - Edit - Copy Merge, then Edit - Paste), because I thought it would look better with a large black border, but I wanted to keep all that was in the icon. I then added this texture by discolore on Color Burn 42%. Then, I added a scan by _sinelinea, black with a grey rectangle, resized it to icon size and set it to Multiply. Went back to the merged layer and resized it so that everything was visible.

Hmmm...well I love your Orlando/LOTR stuff so more of that is never amis (perhaps some Kingdom of Heaven, Haven or Calcium Kid...there are just not enough good icons of Haven or CK) oh and I see you have Doctor Who listed I'd love to see some of those. And Cate Blanchett.

In the pressing my luck category I'd say Charlize Theron, Sean Bean, Adrien Brody and Naomi Watts... :-)

Maybe some User Info Banners and/or Headers to change things up?

You did ask but just ignore me if you want to... *snerks*

Oh yes, I really should do some Haven (there are a few scattered around in the older posts), KoH and CK ones. Cate's a given at the moment, I'm girlcrushing on her ;)
Any more specific requests for Doctor Who? There's so much I hardly know where to begin with iconing!

To be honest, I'm not interested in any of those, so there'll likely will be no icons of them. I'd have to spent too long to look around for good pictures that tickle me in one way or the other, and that's only fun when I care about the subject, you know? (I might do specific icon requests at one point in the future though when I'll ask for pictures, and as long as they're HQ enough to icon you'd be totally free to request them then!)

I've never really thought of making user info banners, but why not? I'm going to think about that because I often have a hard time with larger graphic (plus they require text imo and I suck at coming up with that!)

For Doctor Who anything with David Tennant 'cause he's my boy...the least amount of Rose the better...

Awww....okay I'll keep that in mind and keep an eye out.

Well I don't know...I don't really use texted user info banners so I don't really know what goes into them...but I suppose most people do...

First, I'm sorry for the superlate reply and thank you for the nomination :))

I have thought about making a tutorial for that icon (because I love how it came out), but I found it very difficult to recreate the effect (in a manner that's it's still recognizable as the same effect) with a different picture/texture combination. It is possible to get a nice effect with the same technique on another icon, but the end result isn't as it turned out here then. So I'm not sure as how useful in general a tutorial on it would be.
Most of the icon is based on the particular texture I used (this one by _iconographer, rotated 90 ( ... )
