Written for kh_drabble’s prompt ‘into the woods’. A sequel of sorts to this piece, because, well, I just had to. : p

Title: Technical Difficulties
Word Count: 506
Summary: As if they needed more proof that costume changes never bode well for Organisation members, Axel, Roxas and Xion find themselves not blending in aswell as they'd hoped. Again.

To everybody’s credit, nobody said anything for at least ten seconds. Of course, the fact that this was more due to them all staring at each other in utter shock rather than any sense of tact somewhat detracted from that- as, of course, did Axel’s eventual remark.

“Wow, Roxas. Puberty sure hit you like a Fat Bandit Heartless.”

“Shut up!” Roxas growled, a little lower than he’d intended. It seemed that his changes hadn’t just been superficial after all. At least he’d realised what’d been happening soon enough to be able to consciously halt the process, although at the sight of the patches of thick grey fur sprouting from his arms, it seemed it hadn’t been soon enough, and oh God, were those ears on top of his head?!

“Man, you look like Saïx first thing in the morning.” Axel continued in the knowledgeable tone he always used when he told them about the worlds and life in general as well as when he was bullshitting to extremes. “The guy gets though ten packets of razorblades a week, seriously.”

Luckily, Roxas was spared wondering just how Axel knew what Saïx looked like first thing in the morning by Xion innocently asking, “What’s puberty?”

This also had the added bonus that Roxas himself didn’t have to ask.

It was the first- and quite possibly only ever- time he’d seen the older man look thrown. “It’s...uhh...it’s, um...” he stammered before shaking his head quickly. “I’ll tell you when you’re older. Besides, what happened to you? Take a wrong turning for the Annual Lumberjacks’ Convention?”

Xion glanced down at her newly acquired outfit- sturdy boots, worn jeans and a red plaid shirt that seemed the size of a small tent on her- before looking back up at Axel. And then down. And up again. And then across at Roxas, who seemed to be having his own problems tearing his stunned gaze from the taller Nobody.

Axel, for his part, looked from one to the other and placed his hands on his hips with an exaggerated sigh. “What, did one of you forget the map? The cottage can’t be that far- we must have landed in the middle of the woods-”

“This,” Roxas cut him off, pointing at him with a triumphant if strangely clawed finger. “Is karma, Axel!”

Axel raised an eyebrow in surprise that was about as convincing as his protests that he had nothing to do with the time the moogle had disappeared from the Castle for a week about the same time as it’d been harassing him to pay up his debts.

“I don’t know what you mean, Roxas.”

The blonde boy just stared at him in disbelief, whilst Xion seemed to be have dislocated her jaw in shock. Axel twisted this way and that to take in his newly acquired outfit, then glanced back at them and shrugged.

“I really don’t see what the big deal is. After all,” he said with a smirk, putting up the hood of his cloak. “Red is my colour.”
