Chapter 2 A black, hard covered book lay in the middle of the bed, rose petals scattered across the jacket. Each petal stained with blood, the crimson dripping down as if they were tears leaving wet tracks down the small boys face. The boy opens the book and runs his fingers over the semi-rough pages. The ink is somewhat faded but it doesn’t lift from the paper. He closes the book and let his hands wander over the smooth cover. He set the book down on the nightstand and leaned back on the deep purple sheets, burying himself in the pillows. A few tears slip out and race down his cheek. He quickly wipes them away with the pads of his fingers, scolding himself silently for crying. He welcomes the darkness, letting sleep control his over-emotional body.
He wakes up in the morning coming face-to-face with his Siberian husky puppy, Lexi. He blinks once to clear his vision, the cloudiness disappearing. The boy smiles and reaches out a hand to pet the small dog.
“Zee?” His twin’s voice echo’s throughout the house. “You awake?” She calls out again; he sighs and swings his legs over the side of the bed, lifting himself from the comfort of his bed.
“Yeah, Vee, I’m awake.” He calls out to his sister. He glances at the book again grabs it. He opens it and reads the first paragraph.
‘Zachary and Valary, I am so sorry to leave you like this, but all of my old depths caught up to me, I knew they would sooner or later, but I didn’t know when. I wrote on these pages bound together in the form of this book to tell you everything I could never say to you myself. Please understand that I had to do this, not for me, but for you, for your own safety. I know nothing will change, but please take care of Mattie for me while I’m gone, he depends on you guys now.’
Zee closed the book, hastily and rolled his eyes. ‘How could she be so stupid?’ Zee set the book down on the bed and ran downstairs and caught sight of his sister holding a bottle for the baby. Mattie looked up at Zee and gave him a lopsided grin around his bottle, which Zee and Vee used to give each other when they were small. Zee picked the baby up and heard Vee let out a sigh of relief. He mumbled soft, unknown words to the baby, smiling when Mattie smiled at him. If there’s anyone that can melt his heart, it was the baby in his hands. He was a splitting image of him and his sister. Mattie had the same bright green eyes, the identical raven hair, the matching pale skin, and the equivalent personality. He was a calm baby and for that the twins were thankful.
Zee laid Mattie down on his chest and the baby was calmed by his brother’s heartbeat, the continuous rhythm of it singing him to sleep. Vee walked back into the room and smiled at the sight on the couch. She hurried back up the stairs to her room and snatched the camera off of the dresser. Quietly, she crept the down the stairs, careful not to wake her brothers. As soon as she pressed the button to snap the picture, a sound of breaking glass was heard from the kitchen. Mattie woke up screaming, the noise scaring him. Zee quickly awoke to the sound of his baby brother crying. He picked the baby up and sang to him, softly to calm the hysterical screams. Vee cast her brother a worried look, Zee returned it. She cocked her head to the side towards the basement door. He nodded and carefully, they walked to the door, opening it. Once inside, Zee handed Mattie to his sister and locked the door with the multiple locks. Vee and Mattie waited for him at the bottom of the stairs. He felt across the wall and flicked the light switch on when he found it. He ran down the stairs and looked up as he heard the commotion above his head; the people that were in the house were looking for something. Zee let out the breath he was holding and shook his head, to clear it. He took Mattie from his sister and held the baby close to his chest. Mattie looked up at his brother and stretched out his tiny hand to touch Zee’s face. He let his little hand wander of his brother’s face, trying to do everything in his power to calm his protector down.
Zee smiled at the baby and Mattie smiled back. Zee cast a glance around the room; everything was already set up as if someone lived there. His mother knew this was going to happen so she was prepared. She had the walls insulated and made soundproof so no one could hear what or who was in this basement. The twins’ old crib that they used to share was down here set up with blankets and all. Zee placed the baby in the crib and turned on the slow spinning toy above Mattie’s head. The baby laughed and kicked his small legs to the music. Vee joined his side with a pacifier for Mattie. She popped it in his mouth and watched as he sucked on the rubber happily. After a few minutes had passed, the baby was asleep and the twins were wide awake with fear. After that night, no one heard from the trio again. It was said that they were taken from their home against their will and killed. No one really knew the truth, except me of course. Who am I? My name is Synyster Gates and I was the one to take their mother, leaving them as an incomplete family. I looked down at the pathetic waste of human space before me and turned away quickly, it was disgusting just to look at it.
Years have passed since that day they disappeared. As powerful as I am, I don’t even know where they are. I rolled my eyes at the pleas that came from the children’s mother. Naturally I am good person, but this one here; she owes me because I saved her life. I destroyed everyone that would hurt her or her children. Now she can either serve me for eternity or give me her soul. She pleads for me to let her go every day, just once to see her children. I can’t do it, she owes me and she obviously doesn’t understand. How stupid can she possibly be? I walk slowly across the catwalk, careful not to fall, and stand in front of her cage. It’s sizeable; she can lay down in it and stand up in it. I’m not completely heartless.
“Give me what I want soon or I promise you that you’ll never see your precious children again. I will have them hunted, skinned alive and brought here so you can see what you did.” I lowered my gaze at her and grinned. The fear in her eyes made me feel alive; I inhaled as if breathing in her emotions.
“How could you hurt three innocent children, they did nothing to you.” I rolled my eyes again and drew out my sword. I slid it in between the bars and held the tip at her jugular vein.
“Listen lady, I don’t care what you think. Give me your soul or I’ll kill them. You have two days, if not, their souls are mine along with yours and you’ll never see them again.” I pushed the tip of the blade so that it was making a dent in her neck to emphasize my point. She pushed herself against the bars and turned away from the sword. I pulled the blade out of the cage and placed it back in its sheath. I walked away from her sobs and pleas and took my place on the throne. I sighed and rested my chin in the palm of my hand. Why does she have to be so stubborn? If she gave me her soul, she would be able to see those brat’s of hers.
Two days passed and still no answer from her. I walked back to her cage and stood in front of it.
“You have five minutes to tell me what you want before I kill you.” She looked as if in deep thought. Five minutes came and went, finally I heard her mumble something.
“Say it louder.” I commanded. She mumbled again.
“Louder!” My voice echoed throughout the room.
“Take my soul,” She said looking down at her feet. I grinned and unlocked the cage. I grabbed her by the elbow and forced her out of her form of sanctuary. She glared at me but said nothing. I walked her to the room with all the souls, each one separated by power. I needed this last one to absorb all of them and make me the God that I am supposed to me. She is going to be the creator of me. I placed her in the chair and put my hand across her heart, it was beating faster than normal. She was absolutely terrified of what was about to come. I felt her stiffen under my touch and I smiled some.
“Guard!” I yelled for security.
“Yes sir?” A guard appeared at my side in less than a second.
“Get me the box” He nodded in understanding and walked off to find the box. A few minutes passed by and he quickly came back with the box. I grinned and took it from his hand, thanking him before he left. I placed the box in the middle of the room on the red pentagram. It powered up some but didn’t open. I picked up the needle from where it lay next to the box and stabbed it in her heart, it gradually stopped. I sucked her soul into the needle and smiled as it fought to get free. I placed it in the bin with the most powerful ones and watched them glow. I carried the bin and poured the souls onto the floor inside the pentagram. They struggled to get free but an invisible barrier stopped them. I poured bin after bin onto the floor and smiled at all of the souls. I took the key off the chain that was around my neck and put it into the box.
A blue flash shot up from the box and met with the crystal on the ceiling. It shined brightly and red orbs flew up and met with all the souls. Each soul was a disease, a destroyer, or a cause of war. The souls joined together. The red orbs mixed with the white souls, fusing together making a pink flash. It bounced off of the mirror and it hit my chest. I welcomed the new burning sensation in my heart. I was the deadliest sin of all and I am going to be the destroyer of all mankind.
