Ok, i lied...I managed to get in the 3 o clock show of Wild Wild West er i mean Van Helsing on Sunday. Welll...let me say I won't be confusing this movie for Hitchcock. Basically, if you go in expecting a horror film, which it is not, you will be disappointed. If you're in the mood for a good John Woo-esque plotless action movie, well then perhaps ( Read more... )

I will probably be seeing this fairly soon...I love bad monster movies(they make me smile) They have been promoting the new DVD editions of the Universal classic horror films with a sticker that says "as seen in Van Helsing" that cracked me up...I imagine there is no comparison to those films...I hope that when you said "John Woo-esque plotless action movie" that was 2 points and not one...like a John Woo like action movie except they forgot the plot...I am a Woo whore!

BTW...how are you doing?

you do realize that you are watching a movie taken from an anime, right? so all the plot was lost when they crammed all the episodes into one movie... plus what movie has ever been true to the book? i think Fight Club was close, but they left out some stuff due to the fact that the average American male cannot keep track of the plot unless it involves destruction... so the rest of the movie...

if youre talking about the anime hellsing, theyre only related by being based on the same material with similar ideas about a young van helsing kicking ass, anything beyond that and the movie is just copying the series. if you mean taken in that sense, it certainly may be true and it couldve been influenced and borrowed elements and such, but the movie certainly wasn't intended to be any kind of official reworking of the anime and i doubt it has the blessing of its creators without seeing any kind of screenplay credit.

I think the absence of plot is more to do with Stephen Sommers' action-first mentality, if you use the Mummy movies to compare. They did have more plot than this. But still, he knows how to make a fun watch.

"the average American male cannot keep track of the plot unless it involves destruction" haha so true...thats how movies like 2 Fast 2 Furious make it to number #1
