If you're going to be late or you're going to cancel, call. It's polite. People shouldn't have to be told this, and yet over the last two weeks, multiple people have canceled or been incredibly late and just left me wondering WTF. Seriously, people. This isn't hard.

You know, some of my friends from NYC are shockingly bad for that. They'll say there coming to something, nit show, and then their excuse for not coming is that they just were too tired or what not. Which fails to explain why they didn't call.

WHich hasn't happened to me, personally, but I've seen it enough. I can't decide if this is specific to them or some kind of cultural difference. Me, I come from a small town where you have to drive long distances to do thing - not showing up without explanation simply isn't done.

I actually had a friend back in the day that I finally cut off entirely, after three times in a row where we'd make plans, I would show up... and he wouldn't appear. I'd get a call a day or two later apologizing (after I'd called him several times leaving, "Are you still coming???" messages), but never with a better excuse than, "I flaked out."

He was shocked that I told him I didn't want to do things with him any more while he acted that way, and that if he really thought he'd pulled it together down the road we could talk about it and figure things out, but that he'd burned me three times in a row (and I'd told him after the second time that he was on very thin ice).

Things come up, sure, but you at least have the decency to call and say, "Oh crap! I can't make it!" Or something...

I think we were supposed to meet up last Sunday at the Renfest, but I was 400 years late.
