Notes: This is sentence #41 from my 1sentence claim turned into a drabble. It's titled "Swimming Home" because the original idea was born when I tried to reconcile the song with the RK universe. I also wrote it while sick

Oh wow. I'm pretty much just reduced to fangirl hysteria and tears.

The path was a tricky one, too, narrow and full of rocks that were too easy to trip over. I ADORE this sentence. It's not clunky or overlong, but it explains perfectly the path Kenshin is taking.

His head still against his mother's shoulder, his sister pressed against his side, Kenshin caught the sword firmly in his hand. IT MAKES ME HAVE SO MANY FEELINGS. *heart pain* And then his dad being all proud and loving? AGHHHH FEELINGS <3

This is where you want to be. THAT, for the rest of forever, thanks so much. I really think that is pretty much Kenshin and Kaoru's relationship; no matter how bad it is, or how hopeless it seems, they just need to be with one another

Hehe, the rocky path was totally a metaphor for Kenshin's path of redemption. I'm glad it works!

Kenshin wouldn't be so sweet and kind-hearted if his family hadn't been like that!! And look at them, they're reaching from the Other Side to comfort him and guide him!
(actually, this was based on the Shinto (I think?) belief that, when you die, someone from your past comes to take your soul to the afterlife). SO, UH, YES. HUG-FEST. The poor man has craved it for twenty years and he's dying. He deserves the hugs and love! D:

THIS. The entire Jinchuu arc proves that Kenshin's home is wherever Kaoru is and that he'll go through hell and back for her. And vice versa, because her faith in him never wavers.
And oh GOD, now another plot bunny has bitten. Kenshin and Kaoru finally alone together on the boat back from Enishi's island. The things you make me do! :P
