Comic Con 2010 Legend of Korra Interview
- As mentioned , the cabbage merchant will not appear, but "his legacy will be present in some form."
XD his legacy?? Oh god now I really want to know.
- As an evolution of the first series, The Legend of Korra will have more sophistication to it, but still keep the humor, fun hybrid animals, and action.
We all know Mike and Bryan love throwing in a hearty helping of humor, no matter what they're working on. This shouldn't feel like much of a surprise. But I do hope they'll try to edge away from the childish humor, just a tad. I personally think they already ran as far with it as they could in A:TLA.
- It won't cover more mature subject material necessarily, just different mature subjects. "It won't be another war, but a different sort of conflict."
And I really love that idea. I love that they're trying to change it up, and I'm thinking they're trying to move away from the usual save-the-world in _____ days cutout. Anddd I think the first part of what they said, about not covering more mature subjects but in fact different ones- implies that they don't think A:TLA was necessarily as "immature" as some of the fans whine. I personally never thought it was immature. I loved every moment of it, and I know many people much older than I am did, too.
- On whether or not we'd see a love interest for Korra: "We love that stuff. We're total cornballs, we love cheesy teen romance. Rest assured, there's plenty of romance happening in the story, but it's the same balance of ingredients that we like."
I grinned when I read that. Especially at the "but it's the same balance of ingredients that we like" bit. I'll just leave it at that.
- Katara IS in fact the mother of Aang's offspring, who will be central to the show. "We didn't mean for it to be a big super-secret, that they end up together."
Leaving it at that~~
Honestly I'm really glad to discover I'm not the only one who got the X-Men vibes from that first news release of the general plot of Legend of Korra. And I'm especially glad M&B are aware of that and that it's a worry I can put to rest for now.
- Will it be a very different world from where we left off? "Yes and no, the world has definitely changed, and evolved, and advanced, but we're very conscious of keeping the same feeling. Not totally different, but it's definitely generations later."
Translation: it's a whole new world in terms of tech, but it's still Avatar. <--- totes awesome. Everything the fandom could possibly ask for.
- "There will definitely only be one Avatar at a time, and it is Korra."
Duh? Now I wonder what exactly the question was >.>
- So will Aang have any kind of presence? "Yes...in his way."
Round of applause for whoever predicted he'd appear in spirit form at some point throughout the series! ;D
- DiMartino and Konietzko will continue to work with Joaquim Dos Santos and Ryuki Hung, working to improve the design and animation.
- The Legend of Korra will in fact be a mini-series, with Michael and Bryan directly writing each episode.
Those two bullets go together because they're just that awesome. Hell to the yes (sorry, I know I've been saying that a lot LOL... can't help it). Tighter, richer, bolder... dare I say riveting? Can't wait for this.
- "As a mini-series, it's going to be really tight. While we really love the filler episodes, those are some of our favorites, this thing is just lean and mean. It's a really cool driving story."
LOL for some reason when I read that last line I had this vision of the Avatar gang cramped inside a beat up old van on a road trip.
