Sigh. Well, I had thought that my ex would be able to take care of Eliza (see LJ icon for cuteness) over the Christmas break while I'm in Texas, but that is not to be. So, I thought I'd draw on the combined wisdom of my LJ dearies to see if anyone had any advice about flying with a dog. She's 12 pounds, so I believe that it'll be no problem to ( Read more... )

Salient is right about booking early--there is a limit on pets for every flight. And I would avoid the hold if possible. I almost lost a cat that way, too--they forgot to put her on the plane, and she had to be shipped on a different airline altogether!!! Let me tell you, THAT made for some tense moments when I reached my destination. Kinda made Delta's VIP (very important pet) sticker on my late beloved Fairfax's carrier a bit of a joke, but then again, Delta has proven it can't get humans from one place to another, so why should it be any different with other mammals?

Thanks -- I'm a little wary of the hold, too, mostly because I think it'd freak Eliza out to no end to find herself completely human-less and isolated. I don't think that the presence of other crated animals would be a comfort ... and you've definitely given me food for thought about poor Fairfax's experience!
