Questioning

Feb 04, 2007 09:59

I really should be working -- and I just looked up some call numbers of library books, so this is really just a break from work -- but I'm so excited to have an internet life again that I'm feeling playful.

So my question for everyone is an old, old one, but I think that many people change their answers to this one as time passes. My question? ( Read more... )

1. My version of Bob Dylan's Desire, which replaces "Joey" with "Abandoned Love," a song recorded during the Desire sessions and not on any album
2. The Beastie Boys Paul's Boutique
3. Bob Dylan's Blonde on Blonde
4. The Pixies Surfer Rosa
5. Tom Waits Blood Money

They change all the time -- often each time I buy an album (yes, I think I might be musically fickle!). And, like ElizaWharton, I worry about the longevity issue. But as of the moment, and not in any intentional order:
*Danny Elfman's soundtrack to Edward Scissorhands
*Elvis Costello's Spike
*The Flaming Lips' Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots
*Imogen Heap's Speak for Yourself
*Ella Fitzgerald's The Best Of The Song Books: Love Songs

But I think your island might be more danceable!

Ok,this is lame, but I think about 1) longevity -- which albums would I *NOT* get entirely sick of after 30 or 40 years and 2) which albums have songs that I'd like to learn to play, because, being bored out of my mind, I'd probably be spending my leisure time making primative instruments and trying to learn how to play things. So, with that in mind ( ... )

Um, for the linguistically challenged among us (and this may just describe me!), translation of the Francais, please?

Hehe, it's the best line in an opera, ever:

"When will I love you? Well, I don't know. It could be never. It could be tomorrow. But it's not today, and that's certain."

Oh, that's a great one!!! I may have to steal that line for internet dating rejection purposes ;)

Can you tell that I know nothing about opera? Although I did see Il Troubador once, and I vomited from food poisoning during the intermission. After that, my date started calling that one Ill Troubador!

Oh, man. I'm terrible at this question because I'm famously musically oblivious. That said, I might be able to live with...
+ Paul Simon's Graceland (played it to death in college and still love it)
+ Indigo Girls' eponymous album (good lyrics, and in my sad li'l vocal range)
+ Gotan Project's La Revancha del Tango (gotta practice)
+ Moby's Hotel (just generally awesome)
+ Nick Cave's Murder Ballads (in case of PMS)

I haven't decided yet, but Indigo Girls' eponymous album is definitely on my short list.

What a tough question! For sure, I would have to go with Mozart's Requiem and Handel's Messiah (good recordings, with period instruments and shit though, not just any old crappy "Best Of Classical" CD). The Beatles' Rubber Soul. The most recent Dixie Chicks CD. And whatever recording has Louie Armstrong singing "It's a Wonderful World."
