Secretariat saved Secretariat because he's awesome.

I have seen Secretariat.

Here are my two big problems:
1. It is a Disney movie. By god, it is a Disney movie.
2. You do not take the 1973 Belmont Stakes...arguably one of the most amazing moments in American sports...and change the race call. Ever. You do not scrap the whole thing and keep "he's moving like a tremendous machine" after you've shown us ( Read more... )

I'm trying to wrap my head around the fact that Bill Nack was:

A) given such a pivotal role in the whole fucking movie and...
B) that the REAL Bill Nack was in this movie.

I though "Holy shit, it's that Ruffian movie all over again."

I saw the movie yesterday. I squirmed around in my seat a few times, and basically told my friend that the movie was totally Disneyfied. I probably wouldn't go watch it again, but seeing all the old people in the theatre made me realize how many of those people actually saw Secretariat.

I was actually surprised Bill Nack's role in it wasn't as pivotal as it wound up being, given that he supposedly camped out by Secretariat's barn all through the spring of 1973. (I really dislike the guy that they cast in his role in general. Honestly, the person who played him in Ruffian would have been better.)

I went to an afternoon showing today, and saw a lot of older people in the audience also. But then I went with my mom, who watched Secretariat's Triple Crown religiously and always remains in awe, so I guess the movie would appeal the most to the people who saw him run.

I think I'll see it again when it comes out on DVD. Maybe the sap will bother me less.

I haven't seen it yet, but I already have issues with it. The tagline: "based on the impossible true story" NO.

If it was impossible, it wouldn't have happened, I think the word you are looking for is IMPROBABLE. Also, he's a legend because he didn't just win the Belmont, he annihilated the Belmont. A 30 length win? Never been matched.

I loathe Diane Lane in general, and I also detest AJ Michaka who plays her daughter.

I'm going to see Legend of the Guardians instead. I love Secretariat, who doesn't? He's the most amazing racehorse this world has ever seen. But I'm not going to see that crap fest.

The dialogue for Diane Lane was pretty atrocious and a little awkward in parts. The whole flow of the movie was disrupted by the unyielding need to put her in a position where she had to say something inspiring every five minutes.

I honestly think the makers of this movie completely underestimated the public's eagerness to see a movie about Secretariat. It didn't need to be over dramatized, over sentimental, and formulaic to make money, proven by the fact that Secretariat, the one character who wasn't any of those things, saved the movie from itself.

I just *knew* they would fuck it up. I could tell that they were focusing too much on the family and not enough on the legend that is Secretariat. I know that the family is what drove that horse, but he ran on his own. Why wouldn't they focus on him???

My bff decided she's dragging me to see it tomorrow. And I'm like: "do I have to??" I'm such a little kid. :P
