This is great-- I've been looking forward to more in this series you're working on. It almost seems like a different style to me from your norm-- like a bunch of beautiful little vignettes tied together. I really like it!
Thank you! I wrote maybe one story slightly similar to this format a long, long while ago. (Silkworm.) And I like how this turned out. It's an easy way to string together a short story that encompasses a rather large time span.
First of all, the title: I love it! So brutal, so harsh, so very much Brad-and-Ashleigh-slamming-each-other-into-the-tack-room-walls-in-the-heat-of-the-moment! ;)
Love that the rest of the story really played up the brutal emotional honesty between them, not masking their dislike, but also not completely disregarding the chance of more. It’s just such a perfect display of all the violent thoughts and emotions that they’re always experiencing just under the surface, but yet, very rarely, actually relate to each other out loud.
Beautiful writing all around! The rhythm of the story and the mood are perfectly set. The ending gave me shivers, Extraordinary…!

I was also wondering, whom (who?) do you visualize as Brad and Ashleigh (if you do so at all, that is)?
