I didn't like that Ashleigh would cheat on Mike either, but I always imagine Ashleigh as an all or nothing character who does everything passionately. So it makes sense to me that she'd do this thing with Brad just once, while still maintaining her relationship with Mike. Granted, she'd probably never tell Mike about it, but then that's where she and Brad are such "awful" people. In the end, they're a little too alike.
I can imagine that people would have to reactions to her deal with Brad: 1) she's crazy and 2) she misses Wonder. And then there's 3) her relationship, business and otherwise, will have changed with Brad over the course of Star's career. So it might not be too unusual.
But those are my thoughts. ;) Thanks, Yuki!

I love writing from Brad's perspective. He may not be totally lock-step in canon (and really, I wouldn't want him to be), but I enjoy trying to look at things through his eyes every once and a while, and I can't help how fascinating I find it. Every time I find this version of Brad in canon (because he's in there!) I kind of have a ridiculous little squeeing moment.
I always wanted Star to stay at Townsend Acres. I thought that would have been an awesome recreation of the earlier books, and was disappointed when they did the predictable thing and moved everything to Whitebrook. Not to mention what they did with Brad made no sense. (Brad is a fantastic trainer! Brad is optimistic and knows they'll win the Triple Crown! Brad is an evil, militaristic horse abuser! What?) Logically speaking, had Star stayed at Townsend Acres, I can totally see him accomplishing all of the above. If Brad got Glory to win the Classic by 31 lengths, anything is possible ( ... )
