[There is heavy sarcasm in his rasping voice.] I don't know. Perhaps it has something to do with my ruthless ambition and willingness to kill anyone who gets in my way?

Ahh. Then perhaps ambition could be defined as another trait limited to Inmates.

What are the specifics of your situation?

I intended to become a god, and was willing to kill my own brother if he should get in my way until I discovered that the future that would await me if I proceeded as planned was...less than pleasant. I also betrayed a woman who loved me, leaving her to die in the Abyss in my attempt to reach Takhisis, the goddess I wished to slay to take her place.

That is quite ambitious [and not exactly how CLU's own story panned out, but it's almost similar in some distant ways]. Do you believe your actions were necessary, or would it all have been considered 'selfish' by others?

It sounds like your offense, mostly, was intention.

I followed you.

[This is not an accusation.]

[There's a slight delay, as he attempts to process that]

How does that qualify you for Inmate status?

I was given no choice in the matter.

[I I I. He hadn't been sure about this whole "personal identity" thing at first but it's becoming a lot more ingrained when dealing with CLU.]

Lack of personal responsibility for actions considered signature qualifier for Inmate status. Removal of choice of participation in agenda to perfect system constitutes abnegation of responsibility for actions.

And

[...No. He still can't quite say to CLU's face that what they did was wrong because it wasn't all wrong, was it? Not all of it, surely.]

What actions, exactly, are you required to take personal responsibility for? I acted solely within the directive that was given to me, and by extension, then, so did you. Perfection of the system was requisite, and any actions committed that contributed to that goal were thus valid.

[Clearly there's no doubt in CLU's mind what had been done was right, that he was in the right. And that whatever Rinzler had needed to do to help him--albeit unwillingly--maintain a perfect system had been the correct path.]

[He rubs his eyes] Kevin Flynn. Apparently...a twin?

[His eyebrows furrow.]

Why...? [There's an uncertain pause, a firm frown. Wtf is going on.] Is there a flood occurring that I'm not aware of?

Why do you appear young?

I don't know about the parameters or anything? But I was told that inmates are just... people who need a second chance at life.

Hm. Are you a Warden or an Inmate?

A second chance. Do you know what qualifies an Inmate to need a 'second chance at life'? What if they felt their life was acceptable the way it played out?

Let's get one thing straight. You deserve to be here. In fact, if you're anything like the rest of us, you deserve worse. In six months, when you realize whatever it is you've done, I'm not going to say I told you so.

[So testy. He'd shrug.] Ah. I can see that you have great confidence in the Admiral's decisions.

Worse. What are the specifics of your situation? What have you done that would make you feel that this punishment--or worse--that's been inflicted on us all is required or necessary?

I think the man's senile, but I don't think he decides who comes here. It's not a punishment. It's a waypoint.

And I killed almost two hundred million people, if you count Nerubians. Some don't. Depends on how much you like spiders.

[Huh.] There seems to be a lot of conflicting information about him, from what I can gather. I've been told that he is most likely the one that puts us here.

A waypoint?

That is. Quite the feat. Was it a necessity?
