[The video turns on to a mostly dark room, punctuated by lines of soft light that illuminate the edges and curves of the walls. The communicator has been propped up, like CLU had been ready to speak once the feed switched on. But instead, he sits almost motionless within the frame. His elbow is propped against the polished surface of his ( Read more... )

I try almost every time I see one. They can't be struck.

I also wouldn't assume they're a cause rather than a symptom.

[Frown.] There has to be a way to make them tangible, a way to make it so we are able to strike back at them. [Or this violence will be completely one-sided.]

Why should I not assume that?

Because whoever's piloting the ship at the moment is the greater threat.

[This is the call of the inmate to the Kay. Plz to give me my weapons back. This is how the ship will be forever.]

Arthas is right. They can't take attacks so returning your identity disc would be completely futile and if misused could cause more damage to the Barge's population.

The source of the degradation does need to be removed, but it's not the faceless ones. They're under a higher command.

However, I am willing to return your disc to you with the understanding that I'll render it inert if it's used in a way that directly causes damage to a party that has made no direct, purposeful, and immediate move to harm you.

[It shouldn't be a surprise; Wardens aren't stripped of their weapons immediately upon arrival, and so never have the need to ask.

CLU gives him an even look.] My request wasn't made solely because of this [though he's clearly not too happy about the bruise on his face at the moment], and so whether it can hit the entities or not is irrelevant. I've been attacked twice prior to this since I've arrived on the Barge, by Wardens no less, both times unprovoked [which isn't 100% true, but it's nearly there]. Clearly I should have the means to defend myself.

[Then he pauses, as it sounds like Kay might know something.] What do you believe the source of the degradation is, then? When the faceless ones appeared, the ship rapidly decayed [and thus the conclusion to ghosts = the cause]. Their presence on the Barge, thus far, has only been harmful--increasingly so.

And they've now become violent. Which makes them a threat.

Which wardens? [Genuinely curious.] One attacked my last inmate.

I do. The faceless things were here before. They're actually a tool of the ship and not a symptom of it's malfunction. They rendered services- infirmary. Kitchens. Etc. But they were dismissed because the Admiral felt this wasn't a pleasure cruise.

Whoever was familiar enough and took over the ship would know how to manipulate them as a form of psychological torture. Therefore, work is currently being done to get at the source.

Conditions of weapon return still stand. Unfortunately I've gotten no answer because Chuckles is being a dickhole and too busy torturing people. [Someone has a pissed edged to his voice. He is about determined to figure out what the hell is going on.] As soon as the request is acknowledged, your discs will be returned to you. Someone been by to see to those scratches yet?

Toshiko Sato. 'Elizabeth Anderson.' [And in the latter instance, it was more 'killed' than 'attacked', but CLU doesn't bother to mention this.

And the faceless were tools of the ship? Twitch, unhappy face.] Then they've been corrupted. What has been determined about the source?

And your conditions are understood.

[CLU runs a gloved finger over the bruise, and feels a dull throb of pain from the contact.] No one has, no. Is there a need for it?

Do you require medical attention?

systmadmin October 28 2011, 07:19:58 UTC
No. I'm functional. [Except, not exactly.]

The bruise is only mildly painful.

Alright, if it gets worse come into the infirmary, alright?

He doesn't mind medical treatment but the infirmary itself bothers him a little. In all this crap I've not had a chance to bring it up.

There's no way that I know of. The Admiral is going to have to fix it.

The Admiral is either unable to or unwilling to fix it.

Then there are no other solutions.
