I love Mahler... Im a Mahler groupie and the 2nd Symphony is just so strong. You need a very powerful orchestra and a very powerful choir, not to mention the soprano and mezzo.  Zuohang Chen has been directing for some seasons now, I dont know if this was his last one. He is a Mahler lover, so I have had the pleasure of enjoying many Mahler

OOOHHH. The only symphony by Mahler that will be performed this summer at the Hollywood Bowl is precisely his Second Symphony! I should buy our tickets now but we're low on money since we bought tickets for another concert there. =( It's not good to be poor when the sublime has a price. Then again, a pair of sneakers costs about the same as a good seat.
Music (especially Mahler's) wins out, of course.

I love it that your Dad cries at such things--I am very similar. I was in a board meeting for a charity last week when the director read a heart-wrenching account of an occurrence involving one of the children we serve. I just about started weeping, and I remember looking around at the other board members to see if they were as moved. Apparently not. I guess I must be freakishly sensitive.
