I'm kinda freaked out that 15 counts as a child in some countries and I keep forgetting about it until I read things like this

Here the age of consent is 16 but you're still really considered a minor until 18 and not allowed to appear in 'adult' entertainment, etc. Funny then that as far as censorship goes, movies and the like, the age is 15, and then 18 for the really hardcore stuff.

All very inconsistent. I don't think many 15 year olds, especially boys, are really adult enough at that age. But I guess its all cultural!!!! :)

as much, as I love the U.S., when it comes to stuff like that, they are so incredibly conservative and narrow mindet, all I can do is *headdesk*.

I guess this is why "teenagers" in American TV shows generally look like they are 25 -- because they *are* 25.

I started thinking about all those movies and TV-series mad ein the 70's and 80's when they show teens and young adults being naked and having awkward sex for the first time.

I would never see that as offensive or child porn, and to think that in the US it IS!
It just seems so far away from child porn (and porn in general) as it can be. So innocent.

I guess we see nudity in a different way too... I mean, I've never thought about seeing my parents nude when I was a child.
I know some Americans and Brits who've NEVER once seen their parents nude.

I think it's mostly Americans, they have that strange puritan heritage. I remember reading the IMDB discussion boards about My Neigbour Totoro, in which film the father at one point takes a bath with his small kids, and the Americans on the board just went completely batshit. As if, you know, there was something inherently wrong with a parent taking a bath with his kids. 0.o Luckily there were plenty of commenters from other parts of the world trying to explain that this was actually a very natural and non-loaded thing, and common practice in most other countries apart from the US, and that being all panicky and tense about it would indeed most likely cause the kids to have hangups about it, and maybe get sexually confused later on.
