George(s) is(are) dead. Fortunately George and George survived. In a few weeks, once we're sure that there are no larvae left (we're fairly certain now), we might try some Freds. But we do have four little sprouted plants that came from some kind of food in our windowsill now.

Worms(s), worm, worm, worm. I was inspired by the George Foreman (sp?) naming scheme. Now that they're all gone, if we get some identical follow-up worms and start a new worm bin, they would need to be called Fred. Although George was a nice non-gendered name for our hermaphrodite worms.
The larvae were indeed fruit flies.
