Legend of Korra Finale

I had quite a bit to say about this, but I figured I should rather put this in my own journal.

My thoughts on the finale and the series as a whole )

Well... I did enjoy the show well enough, but I still agree with pretty much everything you say here. It's like, they had all these great ideas and cool characters, but they just didn't manage to put them together into anything that felt like a coherent story arc. Some shows you see, everything is a mess and ideas gets thrown around all willy-nilly, and you keep facepalming and rolling your eyes at how stupid it all is, but you just keep watching anyway, because it's such a lot of cheesy, silly fun. This is the opposite. You can see how some very smart people practically sweated blood to make this happen, working out every angle, dotting every I and crossing every T, but somehow it just - wouldn't - click.

Amon's backstrory: Seriously, that was it? Not only was the connection between him and Tarlokk and Yakone not hinted at, but it all gets dumped on us in a flash back in the second to last episode.

I predicted that he'd be Yakone. Not because there was any particular reason for it, but because he had to be someone (if an author ( ... )

This is probably why I'm so disappointed in this show. You would think that after 3 seasons of Avatar they should know how to do this, but apparently they don't. I also get the feeling that think that the show is much smarter and deeper than it actually is.

Yeah, that just... got fumbled, somehow. I never really understood how ( ... )

Korra's air bending and Avatar state: So after completly dropping the ball on the whole "Korra came to Republic City to learn air bending", she simply gets it handed to her.

YES! Man. After the second episode, the whole thing about learning airbending just disappears. We see her complaining about it every now and then, but on the whole, that subplot just gets submerged beneath the pro-bending crap (I blame pro-bending for a lot of things, actually. It takes up so much space in the first half of the season that all the more interesting stuff in the second half - the reveal about Satho, Tarlokk's rise to tyranny, the New Team Avatar, the history and reconciliation between Lin and Tenzin - feels rushed and shaky). There was one moment in the entire season where she actually worked at it and made some progress, which was when she was locked up in that cage, but other than that, she didn't do any learning in the whole season.

Heck, Korra getting with Mako makes me really think less of her. What's with the flirting, you know he has a ( ... )

I agree with a lot of what you said, especially about how all the Anti-bender stuff just became forgotten as soon as Amon was outed as a lying liar who lies. I wanted to know about Lieutenant Fu Manchu-stache. I want him to join Team Avatar in season 2 and maybe strike up a middle-age romance with Lynn GreatNowIShipIt ( ... )

Yeah, I subscribe to her channel and really agree with everything she said. Well, apart from liking Amon so much, I never thought he was that interesting since we never knew what exactly his deal was and him lying about his past was kinda obvious. I really wish it hadn't been. And why couldn't his scar have been real, maybe some firebender got the better of him at one point.

Unless Melina turned into a pasty white German girl, who is ten years older, I'm pretty sure I'm not her.
