Al/Wrath- 1sentence

Mar 30, 2006 19:02

I hope these are better than my previous attempts. Mostly Genfic involving Al and Wrath.

#01 - Air

Al sometimes wondered why Wrath grew so nervous in closed spaces; why he seemed to be born anew when he gasped deeply upon an open hilltop, and it didn't take him long to realize that the boy had probably spent years in a place where he couldn't truly breathe.

#02 - Apples

When Al offered him a slice of the apple pie he and Winry made together, Wrath's general barrier of dark guilty shyness was overthrown and eclipsed with the simplicity of an innocent love for sweet things.

#03 - Beginning

Even when he had seen the atrocious acts the young homunculus was capable of, the armored boy still couldn't shake the idea that the peurile child he had begun as was still alive within him somewhere.

#04 - Bugs

He had seen Wrath unleash his bored fury on a hill of ants; cried out for him to stop it, that they were living things too and it wasn't his place to ruin their world like that; Wrath paused, looked up with an expression of immeasurable guilt, and Alphonse couldn't bring himself to judge what he had done.

#05 - Coffee

On the morning that Wrath had insisted he help Winry make breakfast for Alphonse, the coffee had been thick and muddy with grounds, but the toast was alright.

#06 - Dark

It was rare that he ever demanded things for himself, but that had been the one undeniable plea that welled empathy in Al's heart and made him stay; "I don't want to be alone in the dark anymore!"

#07 - Despair

He fell to his knees, a gust of wails coming from his lungs, forcing out the tears that echoed from the soul-shredding realization that 'Mama' was gone and he could do nothing; Alphonse watched and wished he could cry, for both their sakes.

#08 - Doors

Pressed against Al's chest, teeth clenched, Wrath sobbed out, "I never want to see that place again!"

#09 - Drink

The nauseatingly cute and reddening expression of Wrath as he hugged Al shamelessly, giggling about how he had found out where Pinako kept her 'special fruit juice', was so overwhelming that it barely registered to Al as a side note that he should document this rare bit of trivia that homunculi, in fact, could get drunk.

#10 - Duty

Wrath was completely silent when Al wondered why the homunculus had given him so much help; later, he could only repeat the guilty reasoning that had settled on his mind, 'Because I owe it to you... for hurting your brother...'

#11 - Earth

He was an absolute mess, covered in dirt and grime and God knows what else, but the musky odor of earth could only barely mask the unmistakeable scent of sadness; blood, tears, the sour tang of alchemy.

#12 - End

He supposed it was a fitting end to the melodrama, providing a way for Al to be with the brother who he loved so much more, and Wrath would have face his fate; be forced to accept the love of the woman who created him; the one who called herself his mother.

#13 - Fall

Cold air that gently numbed and tickled the lungs, a slowly dimming daytime, earth and flora that grew weary and expired, doors that shut out the world earlier with each day, leaves that ceased to fight on and withered into lonesome perpetual travel; Autumn... felt a lot like dying.

#14 - Fire

As they sat, half illuminated by orange light, wrapped in blankets, and clutching their mugs of cider, Al embraced Wrath as tightly as he could with one arm, but he still felt not a patch of warmth on the pallid skin.

#15 - Flexible

While Al read under his favorite tree, Wrath would surprise him by hooking his knees over a branch and swinging upside down to land an attack kiss on the cheek, and Al wasn't so embarassed by kiss, but had to wonder if it didn't hurt to bend backwards like that.

#16 - Flying

There were times when Wrath felt he was absolutely worthless, a powerless creature who could do nothing, and yet when Al smiled at him, he felt he could fly.

#17 - Food

Wrath pouted, upset at being treated like a baby and turned his head sharply away from the spoon, muttering that he didn't need food, but Winry only had to smile and offhandedly mention, "But Al worked so hard to make it for you..." and he bitterly forgot his pride long enough to eat the whole damned bowl.

#18 - Foot

If the dangers of Wrath's automail flailing into his skull were neutralized, Al found he could drive the homunculus into an uncharacteristic fit of giggles just by tickling his right foot.

#19 - Grave

"Just leave me alone," Wrath muttered, draping himself over the newly chiseled stone, tracing the name of Izumi Curtis with unfeeling fingers, "Just go away!", and Al wasn't really sure if that command was for him or for her.

#20 - Green

It was an odd little phenomenon, but after scrubbing the homunculus' hair thoroughly (with cherry shampoo), Al had proven himself wrong, that it wasn't some sort of algal growth in his hair, but really just a natural subtle shade of green that only showed up in a very particular light.

#21 - Head

"OhmyGodAlI'msosorryIwasjuststretchingoutmyautomailIhadnoideayouwererighttherepleasedon'tcryI'msorry!"

#22 - Hollow

It was painful to watch him, looking dead, deflated in his bed in the days preluding automail surgery, staring blankly into space and finally realizing that he had nothing left of what he had been.

#23 - Honor

There was something about the fact that the Rockbells had so entrusted Al to his company- even after all the things they knew he had done, what he had been- that made Wrath all the more determined to prove he could change and live up to that trust.

#24 - Hope

"I think maybe if he sees how much you've changed, Brother won't mind you staying around, and we could all be like a great big family."

#25 - Light

A loud squeak echoed through the darkness, as Winry's lamp revealed the very archetypical deer-in-the-headlights expressions on the boys' faces, and she could only shake her head as she planted a hand on her hip and sighed, "So that's why you wanted to borrow the car..."

#26 - Lost

Al had asked once, why Wrath always followed him at a distance; the boy, ashamed at having been caught, averted his eyes and half grumbled out, "I don't want to lose you too..."

#27 - Metal

The automail was cold and heavy, and draped over Al's side like a paperweight, almost as if Wrath was scared that he would blow away in the darkness and disappear.

#28 - New

The girl had offered him new limbs, perhaps something custom to adjust to his age, but Wrath insisted on keeping the ones that had been meant for Ed; it was the only comfort he could give to let Al imagine that it was really his brother's hands he was holding on to.

#29 - Old

There was a worn old quilt draped over Wrath's rehabilitation cot, one of the only items of Trisha's that still remained in this world.

#30 - Peace

Winry could at least guarantee herself peace of mind as far as innocent intentions were concerned when after she skeptically asked if he really knew what it meant to 'be in love' (especially after such a bold declaration), he cast his glance aside, shuffled his automail toe against the floor and sheepishly warbled, "Well... it's like being best friends forever only you get to kiss on the lips."

#31 - Poison

Red stones were delicious poison; cocktails of innocent human lives that ensured the fact that he was a devil for enjoying them, and yet, if it only meant he could protect Al, he could consume them without a shred of guilt.

#32 - Pretty

It was the first time he'd seen the younger Elric with his long hair down, loose about his shoulders as he tended to combing out all the knots, and the homunculus froze, blushed, completely mesmerised by the soft face in the mirror and the graceful cascade over his back; had to wonder just when Al had become so pretty.

#33 - Rain

He gave Al the umbrella and walked off, not caring about the hell he would get for letting his limbs rust.

#34 - Regret

When he opened the gate, his hands tingled and he felt nauseous; Although Wrath had wanted this, he felt dirty- a murderer, even if one of soulless abominations.

#35 - Roses

He twisted it off the stem messily, pushed it into Al's hands with a hasty, akward first kiss, and produced a blush on the boy's cheeks that matched the petals perfectly.

#36 - Secret

He shook with shame and regret when he recounted the story to Winry and Rose, a load he had needed off his mind, but he added in hushed tones, "Don't tell Brother... please, please, don't tell Brother."

#37 - Snakes

The kiss of a snake, Al supposed, was probably similar to being kissed by Wrath-- that is to say, if snakes had lips, shy giggles and cheeks for blushing with.

#38 - Snow

As Wrath rolled the first vengeful snowball, Al was awash in relief, seeing the rare emergence of the child that lived within him, begging for a life away from past grief.

#39 - Solid

Wrath siezed him in a tackle of a hug, relieved at the momentum, the contact, the fact that he was there, he was real, oh thank God, he was so very real.

#40 - Spring

"If the apple blossoms are great now, just think of how they'll be next year," Alphonse declared happily, and Wrath, who had already made up his mind, only smiled and pretended that he had intentions of living to see another springtime.

#41 - Stable

Al had to pay the farmer back, apologize ten times over, then drag Wrath right out of that stable, scolding, "Geez, if you really wanted milk so badly, you could have just told me."

#42 - Strange

He awoke remembering only Mother's transmutation, to a golden room, a girl in a ballgown clutching a baby, and a strange boy, bleeding on the ground and felt oddly, that Brother must have looked just like that in the aftermath.

#43 - Summer

He might have come along, if only Al wasn't going to that woman's place to train, and he spent the whole summer sulking about it before he realized that it simply wasn't worth it to be alone; walked the whole damn way to Dublith, not caring if she was still there.

#44 - Taboo

When it occured to him that he should take into consideration what Brother would think of them, his mind rewound to an isolated moment when a five year old Edward had declared, "Boys aren't supposed to kiss boys; that's just bad."

#45 - Ugly

Wrath thought his acid stung skin to be a dreadful sight, but to Al, only the pain and secrets that lie underneath when he touched the burned flesh were truly ugly.

#46 - War

"It's horrible," Al declared softly, flipping through a newspaper, scanning the tragic headline, "How people can kill other people so easily," and as usual, Wrath responded with only a light noise, a distant gaze, recalling the time when he had been able to kill people so easily and enjoyed it... enjoyed it so much.

#47 - Water

Kneeling in front of Trisha's headstone, Wrath had wondered aloud where she went when she was gone, and Al responded with his teacher's lessons as best as he could, recounting how she became the grass, the soil, the water in the stream to nourish all the living things, and for some reason upon mention of her transformation to water, Wrath gained an expression of unsettlement that moved soon after to acceptance and finally to serenity.

#48 - Welcome

Yellow lights glowing inside the house; a good home cooked meal, Pinako's specialty; A guest room that was never locked to him; Warm smiles, gentle embraces and acceptance even when they knew what he had done in the past; a working arm and leg; the ability to walk; someone who loved him even if he wasn't all so great as the mighty older brother-- He knew he deserved none of it, and yet it was amazing to be within a human's gaze and not feel like a monster.

#49 - Winter

It was very hard if not profoundly embarassing to explain to Granny just how he had gotten his lips frozen to Wrath's automail hand, but her chuckle proved that at least somebody had been amused by this situation.

#50 - Wood

The pile of sticks and spare planks from the workshop had made the Elrics' childhood treehouse look like a masterpiece, but upon realizing that Wrath's feeble attempt at building had been an effort to make something resembling a home, probably meant for both of them, Al couldn't see it as anything other than a marvel.
